At Bella Italia you will not be disappointed as it comes to food and service and value for your money. The menu has a wide variety of choice also people with allergies or vegetarians can enjoy a great meal here. Nice pastas, pizzas and also meat and fish dishes. They serve house wines but you can also choose from the 'recommended wines'.
The service is kind.
Lots of people know the way to this fine restaurant so most of the time it is really busy. I think in the weekends, it would be recommended to make a reservation.

We were looking for a place to have some dinner in Assen and found the De Port van Assen by chance. What a luck it was! The place is quiet comfortable and cosy. Our waitress was very lovely and helpful, gave some great recommendations about their food. We had some bread as starter (lots of mixed dips and warm bread - yum). For main we had mustard steak - to die for! That dinner was exceptional and even dear.
Once I am back in Assen I will be back there!

I had to get the barstaff in the bar to translate the menu for me and was astounded to find around 100 pizzas offered! I opted to talk to the staff to arrive at a favourite and they were helpful, polite and good humoured. Good service and a good pizza. Well done!

Like most Chinese-Indonesian restaurants in the Netherlands, the Lange Muur has a separate takeaway service. We got a Dutch-Indonesian classic, Nasi Rames and also Bami Rames Special. The piece of fried chicken was very tasty. The fried rice and noodles were good and plentiful. The other parts of the meal, vegetables and beef were regrettably rather mixed up in the white plastic takeaway boxes.

Het Hofje is your typical Dutch snackbar where you can get deep fried fast food such as french fries with mayonaise or peanut sauce, croquette optionally on a bun, dito frikandel (a tasty meat stick) but also icecream, coffee and cake and some simple meals. They have a fairly large and pleasant restaurant section and outside Terrace as well. There is always the choice to take away or eat it there. Conveniently located in the centre of the village opposite the Rabobank.

Touche serve a quite nice surprise menu (from 3 up to 7 courses ...). We enjoyed four courses with a fitting wine arrangement for a reasonable price for this quality. Could sit outside in teh setting sun for the first few hours, and spend more time inside. It was not very busy on a Sunday evening. Would have scored 5 out of 5 if not some dishes had been a bit cold ... the main dish, a nice Entrecote, was however served at nice temperatures. Service very pleasant, perhaps slightly insecure about the wines but no problem. Four hours passed very fast.

Since we leaved in India for a few years; we find this restaurant one of the few that serves authentic Indian cuisine.
Hubby and I have been going to this restaurant since 2008. Since we've lived in India (New Delhi) for four years before, we were in search for authentic Indian food when we arrived in Assen. This restaurant did not disappoint! We love the food and the owner is a really great guy who loves to chat each time he sees his 'regular patrons'.
The only thing to be aware of is that when they're full, the arrival of food gets delayed. This is because they make everything (including sauces!) from scratch. This has improved during our last visits though.

We were driving around on a warm summers evening looking for a nice place to have dinner and stumbled upon this Herberg which, although it looked quite unassuming at first glance, had an outside Terrace that looked inviting. First surprise was the beautifully laid tables inside the restaurant (which was totally empty of any patrons). Outside only about four of the tables were occupied, but we decided to have a look at the menu before we finally decide if we wanted to stay for dinner. The menu was the second surprise, with a well balanced spread of items catering for a range of tastes, from mussels to game and something seperate for children. While the wine list was not too extensive, we manage to find a decent red wine and it was served at a nice temperature since it came from the storage in an underground cellar. Our table was laid out with nice linen tablecloths and quality cutlery. Then the best surprise, the food was really great, with he steak and game prepared just to our order with plentiful side dishes of salads and vegetables. It all made for a wonderful dinner experience on the last evening of our holiday in Drenthe, a place I can happily recommend.Friendly staff and very good service.

At Loohoeve you experience the Drenthe gastronomy and hospitality of Marleen and Jeroen Brouwer. After working in top restaurants both at home and abroad, they have achieved their dream in a special thatched farmhouse guests indulge in dishes at the highest level for a reasonable price in an approachable atmosphere. surroundings In the beautiful green surroundings of Schoonloo in the triangle Assen - Emmen - Hoogeveen cooking it creatively, respecting the seasons and with many Drenthe products. The love of cooking spray on it! Along with a large dose of hospitality and the wonderful rooms makes this the Loohoeve to a pampering place. "It's ambitious, promising and brave what this young couple" (De Volkskrant, 2016).
We booked two night in the hotel and for two evenings in a row were surprised in the restaurant. Outstanding creativity and tastes, using ingredients in different ways - and being able to serve in the right quantities accompanied with good wines. The staff explained it very well and all of them liked to serve and prepare. We enjoyed every bite of it!
A detail that drew my attention, the young lady starting new (or may be a trainee?) was explained what to do, with patience. A great compliment for that as well, too often restaurants tend to forget education.
A place to return!
And yes, even the rooms and teh breakfast were good....

We were on the lookout for a ’quick bite’ while traveling. We hit on “Klein Paramaribo “ restaurant. It doubles as a take-out and restaurant. Seats were comfortable and the waitress’ reception friendly. The menu is a staple of Surinam food and not an endless list of choices which is fine. We took ‘roti’ which was tasty and hearty. Do not expect exceptional cuisine, but the food is made with care, love and that shows. The price – quality is good. We would have been fine without the (taped) music which is a weird mix of probably Surinam bands / singers that not always sing in key. The chef makes the difference and his personal approach makes you really feel at home. Adjacent parking is not possible, so be prepared to walk a few meters.
