Fourth time here and not one disappointment. The food is great, another level in comparison to any other restaurant in Melbourne. The service fantastic and professional with some of the best Italians in Australia. The owner is a careful and caring person, always there, for anything you need. If I could I would come back tomorrow

Housed in an elegant triple-fronted Victorian Terrace, past the bohemian enclave of Melbourne’s famous ‘Brunswick Street’offering seasonal contemporary Australian cuisine and professional hospitality since 1994.Awarded a minimum of 1 hat in the coveted “Age Good Food Guide” every year since 1996.
For our wedding reception in October 2017 we chose Matteo's - we've always loved our experiences there, and measure all our culiinary experiences by this establishment. With only 30 of us, we booked the Venetian room, and as it was lunch on Saturday, they opened just for us and we had the place to ourselves, so our best man could serenade us with his acoustic guitar.
We had asked for our guests to be greeted with a glass of bubbly, a beer or soft drink on arrival, and we were pleased to find that they had opened the back room for guests to mingle before being seated - we hadn't expected this!
The Venetian room itself was laid out beautifully, and one of our guests reported "this is the best food I've ever had at a wedding!" Service was attentive but not intrusive; the courses came out at perfect intervals; it had been no problem at all to modify the menu to remove all nuts (to cater to our guest with a nut allergy); instead of either the drinks package or open wine list, it was no problem for us to give a short list of 5 wines for our guests to choose from; in short, nothing was too big an ask.
We have already returned with a smaller group of 6 on Christmas Eve, and we will continue returning to Matteo's to celebrate our special occasions. We could not recommend this place more. If you haven't been, you must go soon!

A great place to share fabulous Middle Eastern dishes with family and friends. Started with variety of dips then stacks of shared smalls and mains - spicy chicken wings, meatballs, eggplant, lamb (fantastic) and more. Wine and cocktails a winner too. Upmarket place with friendly vibe. Every table on our night was having a great time. Plenty of parking in side streets.

Hellenic Republic is a traditional Greek taverna with a contemporary twist - perfect for modern Melburnians! Our food philosophy is simple – fantastic, fresh produce to prepare traditional recipes in a clean, contemporary style. At Hellenic, kefalograviera saganaki is served with sweet peppered figs; local wines are served by the half litre and succulent meats are cooked over char coal.We recommend our Trapezi menu as the best way to dine at Hellenic Republic, where our chefs prepare a selection of our finest dishes for guests to share. The restaurant seats 120 guests, or alternatively can accommodate up to 220 standing guests for a stand up cocktail function.
What a great night out. Excellent food and service in an interesting bustling crowded restaurant. The waiting staff were very helpful in adjusting the sizes and selections we made from the menu to give us a tasty meal. The highlights among the selections were the Fava dip and the Sardines.

Atmosphere was relaxed and lovely. First course disappointing, we we told when served that the dish was new, “Forest Mushroom and Corn”. The bacon tasted incredibly salty and although full points for imagination, having popcorn in my entree was not okay. The Pork main meal however was one of the best I have tasted combining pork with stone fruit. The side - Duck fat roasted potatoes, garlic and sea salt was incredibly over salted and I love salt. No wonder ther was no salt on the tables. We had 2 desserts and although okay, werent that nice that we would want them again next time. The staff were attentive, however no one bothered to ask us how we found the meal like many restaurants do. Also I had been given a $200 voucher by work colleagues. We forgot to bring it with us. I thought they could look us up because the voucher was in my name and I had details of who gave it to me. I was told that the physical voucher was required. That doesn’t seem right or else what would stop someone presenting the same voucher multiple times so seemed very inflexible. If I didn’t have to go back to redeem the voucher I wouldn’t chose this restaurant personally try Juno and May in Camberwell, same atmosphere, better food.

Not disabled friendly, stairs at function area and also to toilets. I realize menu responsibility of organizer, poor choice.

Inauthentic middle eastern style pizza
At 2/774 High Street, the entrance is in Collins Street. Very warm and friendly staff meet and greet, and the attentive service standard continues throughout our meal. A light industrial feel, with comfortable functional tables, banquettes and chairs. Excellent pides, we over ordered with one each but could have managed with two between three of us. Nice pickled vegetables, babaganoush and olives as entree but not really necessary given ample main course sizes. Good selection of dessserts if you have room (Persian fairy floss anyone?), beers, wine, soft drinks and teas including mint. This place rocks and deserves to do well. Around $150 for three including two rounds of alcoholic drinks each.

A fabulous little family run cafe at the just beginning to get trendy Thornbury end of Northcote High Street. Basically it's the place you imagine when you close your eyes and think of Italian restaurants. Chatty waitresses, bowls of pasta and lemon pannacotta just like mamma used to make. One of those rare places where a couple on a date could sit next to a table of a dozen and everyone would be happy. I will be back in Melbourne in a year and I can assure you I will be in Umberto's very soon after I land.

Stumbled across this little beer garden whilst walking down Plenty Rd. Open the door and so much room to sit. Many excellent craft beers with staff who have excellent personable attitudes. Vinyl is the medium of choice and so many happy customers. Please visit and enjoy for yourself!

This is my favourite cafe in Darebin, I visit several times most weeks. I believe this is the best coffee in Darebin. It is a roastery too so coffee is always fresh. There are premium blends and single origin to buy for taking home. Burnt Fig Granola is my pick for breakfast. It has honey dipped almonds rolled in cinnamon, panna cotta, fresh fruit and pistachio crumb! Heavenly! Have eaten here many times, they have a very good menu. Love the pumpkin quinoa salad, with toasted pumpkin and sunflower seeds, avocado, goats fetta, pomegranate, mixed leaves, house made dressing and a marinated free range chicken option to add to it. So nutritious and tasty. Friendly service and an interesting quirky warehouse space.
