Specialty Museum The Islamic Museum of Australia has 5 permanent galleries: Islamic Faith, Contributions to Civilisation, Islamic Art, Architecture and Australian Muslim History. There is a visiting exhibtion and the Modern Middle Eastern Restaurant & Cafe is run by Masterchef Australia 2013 finalist Samira.
We thoroughly enjoyed our visit. Highlights were the Islamic Faith exhibit and the Islamic Contributions to Civilisation. The contribution of Islam to our understanding of maths, science and technology today is conveyed in captivating exhibits. I loved the short video of articulate Australian women explaining why they wear a hijab.
Basic tenants of Islam were explained well through panels and videos.
Australian Muslim art is featured as well as the work of artists who are not Muslims but have worked on Muslim themes. Australian Muslim history is covered including the history of Muslims who worked in northern Australia before British settlement and the story of Muslims who worked with Christians on one of Australia's most significant infrastructure projects of the 19th century.
We spent over three hours at the museum. The staff were friendly and helpful. There is good access for people with mobility issues. My mother welcomed the cafe at the back of the Museum.
I suggest the Museum add books about the Islamic contribution to western knowledge in their bookshop. The exhibit about this leaves people wanting to know more.
I have written a more extensive review on my blog, Stumbling Through the Past.

Okay, further down High Street around the Northcote area you will find a plethora of bars, however travel travel up for a little bit and you will discover this wonderful gem of a place. I've known about it for a while, and whenever I go past I'm always tempted to stop in for a drink, especially in the cosy beer garden out the back (and I have to admit that I generally always give in to temptation). It's not a huge place, but they do have an upstairs area (which I haven't seen as yet) as well as a late night kitchen - great for when you want a bite to eat after the clock has struck 12:00. It may be a bit out of the way, but it is still a lovely place.

Visited the 2018 Masters Track Championships run by Cycling Victoria. Well organised but the venue (like most like these) struggle for funds and is starting to fall in disrepair. It felt dirty but the cafe was nice and friendly staff.
