We ate dinner on a midweek evening, then returned for lunch the following day, two weeks ago. A popular place, but staff dealt readily with the rush. The food consisted of an enjoyable and tasty Thai selection. Both meals were enjoyed by all our party. Live music on the evening - particularly appreciated the male soloist, but the group were also well worth a listen. The views across the lake to the Mountains made the setting and experience special. Recommended.

We came here for lunch and not only was the food really good but so was the service. We had multiple dishes shared among our group and they were all excellent.

We arrived in Phayao hungry and thirsty in the afternoon and headed straight to this small local restaurant as it was close to our guest house (on Thakawan Road, one block from the lakeside). We both had khao soi, one with chicken and one with pork balls, washed down with cold Leo beer. The khao soy was delicious and rather different from that served in Chiang Mai and elsewhere in the north in that it appeared to contain less coconut milk, giving it a darker colour and deeper taste. The food and drink was cheap and the service quick and friendly. There are several other noodle-based dishes available (including nam ngeo - pork and tomato broth with blood) and the clientele was entirely local - always a good sign. The restaurant staff told us that they normally close at 5pm, so this is really a breakfast and lunch option. Strongly recommended.

Ta Kwan has been a long time favourite of mine when visiting Phayao, and a recent visit there did not disappoint.
There is a good and varied menu with all the normal Thai favourites including fish from the lake.
The layout of the restaurant has been given some thought and is well planned. The ground floor of the restaurant is raised above the outside pavement level and offers uninterrupted views across the lake. There is also an open area upstairs where you can dine alfresco.
The quality of the food, friendliness of the staff and value for money, cannot be faulted.
If I was to make one small criticism it would be that they only have a limited choice of wine, but this did not spoil my visit.
Otherwise a good all round dining experience that I can highly recommend.

I guess you have to be a nudel connoisseur understanding the hype among blue collar workers.Come for lunch and you see what I mean.
The building itself is grand, old style Thai, not very well kept but charming. For a noodle novice is hard to figure out way customer thinks it better than a ordinarie food stall. The brooth is filling, the trimmings the same...I guess i have to get,it another chance

I've been in Thailand for a month now and was craving something to remind me of the US and thought with name like Mr. Steak I couldn't go wrong. Especially since beef is rare in most of Thailand. I'm staying a walking distance away and thought why not.
I originally wanted a hamburger, but they were out of beef patties. I quickly learned that the word "Steak" is used to describe pork, fish, tofu and a few other items aside from beef. The menu did have one item on the steak menu for beef and that is what I ordered. It reminded me more of a chicken fried steak more than anything else. It had a sort of spicy sweet and sour sauce lightly covering it. The plate also came with a small salad and small serving of fries. The salad is more like a coleslaw and so is the dressing it is served with.
It didn't quite fill the need of my craving, but the food was still good. A few days later I went back and got another order to go.
