Good food, excellent service, very nice wine selection (you may take the bottle with you if you dont finish it). Only slight minus: the portion of foie gras were very small

A deux pas de l'Office du Tourisme de Payerne et de l'Abbatiale
Sure picking up La Scala is a good choice, because the place is well taken care of by its manger and owner. On and on and on. Whatever you pick it is good: special of the day, Italian pasta, pizza, or else (even grilled meat). Cleanliness of everything, from napkin to washrooms, enormous choice of dishes (very extended), large beverage selection, excellent price/quality ratio: everything makes that customer's experience will be positive. In the night, in Winter when it rains, this very good restaurant will compel set for the delusion of (typical Swiss) ordinary (bad) weather. You'll leave happy, after the traditional handshake of the friendly manager or his chef.

There were not many restaurants open late in the evening of a weekday. But the pizzeria was opened and almost full. The decoration and general atmosphere is pretty simple, without pretention. But the wall of italian movie stars is nice. The list of pizza offered...MoreThank you see you soon ;o)

We chose the restaurant due to the crowd that sat at the restaurant and the meat that was served raw on the thick hot rock. The restaurant doesn't look like much but I'd go there anytime I'm in the area.

We came for the frogs legs and reserved a table for 4 in advance. We arrived and a non-smiling person showed us to a drafty table for 6 that had clearly not been prepared for us. As we had a young child with us, we asked for a table for 4 that was available nearby. "No.......its reserved" came the curt reply.
As for the meal......miserable service to us, and I would say to all customers in the restaurant.....never a smile, plates dumped in front of guests, and we had to keep asking for things missing from our table........a water glass.......a fork.....bread. The frogs legs arrived, and only when we had nearly finished them (15 minutes later) did the accompanying chips arrive. When our next "a-go-go" plate of frogs legs arrived, there were no chips again. After 10 minutes we called the grumpy waitress over and she said......"You have to ask!" Clearly it was our fault that the unwritten rule was that frogs legs arrive without request, but accompanying dishes....not. In any half-decent restaurant you would get an "I'm sorry but.......or I'll get them straight away". Here the customer is an inconvenience and is to be insulted.
The price was expensive. Had we been able to we would not have paid the service charge. There was no goodbye, and we had to go to the bar to pay, as the two staff were uninterested. Before leaving we pointed out that the table for 4, that we had asked for was still empty......and "Why couldn't we have had that one"........the waitress shrugged....."Its still booked!"
Add to all of this a gloomy 1970s interior, and a menu of alternative dishes as boring as dish-water......and we give this place a TERRIBLE review

A good discovery and on the whole the food was excellent and the service highly efficient. Pleasant dining room with fresh flowers.
On the positive side, the main courses were delicious - excellent flavours and far from bland. The crispy beef was superb, the prawns with Thai basil also, and the chicken with cashews nicely spicy. Definitely way above average European offerings.
On the negative side, however: the wine prices were very, very high.
Also - we had a set menu - the so-called "Japanese salad" was a couple of leaves of lettuce with one crab stick. Hmmm. The starter was a selection of samosa, crispy ravioli and crab toast and just OK, but decorated with an orchid (as were several of the other dishes).
This is perhaps just me, but I would have preferred to do away with the orchids and have a slightly more interesting salad, or even some more reasonable wine options.

We stumbled across this restaurant when we passed through Payerne and were looking for a quick bite. The food was good, but forget about the "quick" part. Everything took a lot of time, even when the place was virtually empty. We didn't even order dessert because we were concerned that it will take forever...

The trouble with Payerne is that it is a Military outpost for the Swiss Air Force. And because of this (or due to this) there is a lot-more-than-average availability of food to cater for the ebb & flow of the demands of compulsory military service. Unfortunately, for the same reason, pizza in Payerne doesn't need to be great just good enough.
For locals, that's not-so-good news.
Don Corleone is run by genuine, authentic, Sicilian Italians who are very proud of their heritage and cuisine. Unfortunately the great expectations invoked by the surroundings and the menu are let down by "average" ingredients which seem to have lost their taste on the road from Italy to Switzerland.
I really wanted to say nicer things about the food at Don Corleone. There really wasn't anything "bad" about the service nor the food, but just that it really only just met our expectations. And we are far from being gourmets!
I had pizza Diavola with Gorgonzola and had to try very hard to taste the gorgonzola and "spicy" salami! If any of you know gorgonzola, its a cheese that isnt shy in announcing itself! Hence why this review gets a low score. We also had pasta with sundried tomatoes, also which had the right look, but not the right taste.
Don Corleone is a good place to meet and eat good Italian food, just don't raise the expectation bar too high, don't expect prices to be less than the national average but do expect some unique ambiance and a gelati for dessert!
Try it and decide for yourself.

It offers a nice bar, a brasserie, a dinning room and a beautiful Terrace. Although located in a beautiful and privileged location, in the midst of a Golf Club, our restaurant is open to the public. We propose delicious meals made out of good quality products. We are also committed to offer a nice and smiling service. Our desire is to offer to every customer a window of happiness, a moment of pure relaxation and a great gastronomic experience. We are open 7 days a week, except in winter. Our prices our middle range.

Don't be fooled by the exterior of this place, step inside and treat your taste-buds to the well presented cuisine that is offered by Madame Truong-Dinh. Authentic Vietnamese and Thai fare await you!
The interior may not be the most pleasant of surroundings and more reminiscent of your typical Swiss after-work bar-cafe than a good restaurant. But where Lion d'Or lacks in appearance it more than makes up for in taste.
Our hostess, Madame Truong-Dinh was happy to receive our instructions that we liked our food "as-it-should-be-spicy" and we weren't disappointed. we enjoyed the green curry and the sweet & sour pork, both of which knocked our socks off, we were happily impressed by the tasty food.
I wouldn't call this place my first choice location for going out and having an evening with friends in great ambiance and atmosphere but definitely well worth a try to experience the food and most definitely a great place to order take-away to enjoy at home.
