Freindly staff, good wine, the plates are artwork, it looks great and it tastes great. It was one of the more expensive meals in our holiday but the quality was excellent. Nice little amuse to start with, free bread with (garlic)butter.

Stopped twice for lunch while skiing, right by the ski lift. Great food, nice place. Try the rosti and the goulash soup. The kaiserschmarren also looked great but we had already eaten too much and had no room. Will go back.

To help you better understand my reviews, my wife and I are independent travelers in our mid-60s. While we definitely like a bit of luxury and enjoy good food, we usually find five-star hotels and Michelin starred restaurants too pretentious.
We've dined at the Alte Mühle many times while attending the Schubertiade in Schwarzenberg. We always enjoyed it, but I have to admit that the last two times the service hasn't been what it was when we first ate here.
The pluses: the menu has interesting dishes, all very well prepared, and the setting is as romantic as it gets.
The minuses: The last two times we have eaten here the service has been very slow and the meal took too long -- the restaurant only seats about 25. This was because the kitchen was overstressed with too many diners coming at the same time. This isn't the restaurant's fault -- most of the diners are attending Concerts at the Schubertiade and so come when the 4:00 concert lets out, or at 6:00, with plans to attend the 8:00 concert. Slow service certainly wouldn't be a problem if you dined here when Schubertiade is not on -- it affects all the restaurants in the entire area as the Concerts attract about 700 music lovers.
Some special notes: they only take cash!! Austrians like their food salty, so Americans may find some dishes a little too salty for their taste. If Zwetschgenstrudel is featured for dessert, order it!.

Small but nicely presented portions with sometimes rather exotic combinations

we recently celebrated an 85th birthday with the extended family at the Hirschen (not the first time). What a lovely treat, the service was outstanding and the food great, from Flaedle soup to veal roast to a cold buffet to end the day. On top of that the picturesque setting in the middle of the village. Well worthwhile for an outing if you are in the area.

After some outdoor activities in summer, we had the chance to enjoy the beautiful Terrace where you can sit under the sun and have a nice break or rest after the tour. There are a well sorted menus available which all of them are prepared fresh with local ingredients. We recommend the self baked cakes where you fine every day different flavors.

Our group of 4 (2 Aussies and 2 Germans) absolutely loved our stay here. Stefanie made us feel very welcome. Our rooms (Kanisfluh) were gorgeous, in the alpine style with both traditional and modern touches. Beautiful views from the balcony over the surrounding Forests, their own llamas and the Mountains. The bed was large and very comfortable. The small "heating" room adjoining the bathroom was a welcome touch, after a demanding hike up the mountain.
We can recommend the tasty fresh plum cake we devoured for afternoon coffee.
The dinner at night was multi-course and gourmet in style with exquisite use of local ingredients and local cuisine.
We loved our breakfast buffet, with every taste catered for: fresh breads, croissants, cereals including Bircher musli, dried and fresh fruits & nuts, yoghurts, jams, cheeses, cold meats & smoked salmon, juices, as well as make your own fresh juice, eggs ,coffee & tea. What a choice!
We can thoroughly recommend this establishment!

Large but typical "Skihütte" (ski lodge), with a nice big sunny Terrace and the usual ski lodge food (Currywurst, Schnitzel, fries, etc.). Can get very busy on sunny winter weekends around lunch time.
Beer is on tap and you have to tap it yourself, which is fun.
Prices are high, but not higher than the usual at these kind of places.

We went there for dinner and it was great. Very friendly service. Ladies dressed in beautiful traditional Dirndl's. The food was excellent, wine good, very nice complimentary drinks at the end and a little gift to take away. It looks a very nice hotel. Certainly worth considering.

Same owner as in Aplenhotel Mittagspittze - Ingo Maddlener
This restaurant is 'ski in/ski out' - positioned at the side of the ski slope just before the Uga ski lift. It gets a huge amount of traffic at lunch time and unfortunately the staff can't really cope - in fact they get quite ratty trying to deal with the crowds. If you can get a table the the pizzas are good when they arrive, but again be prepared to wait. There is extensive outdoor Seating and this is a good option on a warm sunny day, but again be warned the food takes quite a while to arrive. My best tip - get there before 11.45 am and beat the rush. You'll get a table and your order in before the lunchtime crowds arrive.
