The Angelus is an absolute little gem. On a rainy Sunday afternoon about 1.40pm we were descending the hill from the Basilica looking for somewhere to have a late lunch. Fearing we'd left it a bit late and that, given the proximity to the Basilica, we'd end up in a "tourist trap" we opted for L'Angelus. It was fantastic: a four-course meal, good french family-style cuisine, with generous portions, friendly service, and all for 13.50 euro per head! Top quality and value for money. They even have a good sense of humour (almost british) with the signage for the toilets.
The only disadvantage with this restaurant is that it's a bit small - especially in cold weather when they can't use their pavement tables. All the other reviews I've seen here are in french - and the french think this place is excellent, and they're not wrong. L'Angelus thoroughly deserves its top rating.

We visited this restaurant again, having visied it over the years on a Saturday night and very surprised to find it had changed decor and also ownership, so we didn't know what to expect. Previously the restaurant was pleasantly decorated in green and quite light, now completely redecorated slightly darker colours with a red carpet, also making a pleasant atmosphere. The menu is a bit confusing and only basically has 2 main course options on the medium priced menu, fishermans choice and butchers choice, which you have to ask, as it's not indicated anywhere. we chose the Dorade which came out on a pureed bed and my brother had a steak again on a pureed bed. My Dorade wsas not a fillet and has small bones all around it, I have to say verging on the noveau cuisine that was a fashion many years ago, not really flling. The Deserts were very poor and certaily did not match their description, we ordered Tiramasu which appeared in a tall fluted glass with a mass of areiated cream half way up the glass and a very sweet melange at the bottom, very unrecognisable. My wife had another desert which was supposed to taste of chestnut but again basically far too sweet and didn't taste of chestnut. To sum up although the first 2 courses were OK, they were not as good as the previous chef, and because of this we wouldn't revisit.

Great food, great atmosphere, great service! I went as part of a large party and the waiters did an excellent job - even offering us a lift back to the hotel when there were no taxis available! The cidre was amazing, as was the beef steak which I had for my main. Would defintely reccomend.

We had lunch here on December 5, 2012. We were welcomed warmly and seated promptly at a lovely table. The service and the food were excellent. The retaurant was attractive outside and inside; very clean including the "facilities." We could not have asked for a more gracious host or better food. I strongly recommend this if you are visiting the sites involving Sister Therese and/or Lisieux (a lovely town).

A word about the restaurant La Chandeleur ESCAPADE IN THE CALVADOS - Set in a half-timbered house, the La Chandeleur is a creperie located in the city center of Lisieux, five minutes from the Carmel and the SNCF train station. FAMILIAL - In an authentic decoration, discover more than a hundred pancakes and pancakes always generously garnished. The most not insignificant: accompanying you are served a good fresh salad, flavored just right. IN ANY OCCASION - In winter, the fireplace warms the lovers of cakes and in summer the atmosphere is light and good-natured. The prices are frankly affordable and the reception friendly.
We had a lovely meal here on a Sunday when many other places were closed. I had cider served in a traditional drug and drunk from a bowl. The salted caramel served drizzled over my Mont Blanc crepe pudding was gorgeous and so was the Chantilly cream.

Located at 15 min. From Lisieux. On the GPS write the name of the city VALSEME
The restaurant is easy to find in Valseme (around 10km from Villers-sur-Mer) and offers rewarding food. There's a limited menu, which is a good sign on the whole. My wife described the mussels and saffron soup as among the best she's ever had, while my veal melted in the mouth. Bream (dorade) with risotto was just about perfect and the desserts, including a very good ile flottante, are also very good. The decor is modern and very pleasant - the restaurant burnt down a few years ago. A typical fixed menu will set you back around 24E with kids at 8E (e.g. salmon with pasta - thank God not the usual steak hache (burger). I would give it 5 stars if they offered vin en pichet.

Enjoyed a good meal here on the way back from Virmoutiers. My meal came with a lovely cream and mushroom sauce. There was only one lady working front of house, who was quite busy but service was good and pleasant given that our French is limited.
