First, there are two parts to the facility (three, actually): the restaurant, the Gasthaus (adjoining) and the hotel itself (also adjoining). The restaurant is Michelin-rated (one-star, I believe), and since the Gasthaus utilizes the same kitchen at least in my mind it is ipsofacto also Michelin one-star rated. In fact, it doesn't really matter since you get a fabulous meal in lovely surroundings so who cares how many stars? So, we were four: sister-in-law and husband, my wife and I. A Friday evening and it was busy but not full. Neither was the restaurant. However, I recommend Reservations in either, if you can manage that. Nice ambiance, a small courtyard off the Gasthaus as well for fair weather times. The service was noticeably smart, with young ladies appropriately attired in casual black dress. They are training or have trained for service in high-end establishments. No problem to speak English, they understand and speak it well. The food was, not surprisingly, excellent. The menu isn't extensive but there is a nice selection of one, two or three course meals, with prices ranging from just under Euro 20 to around Euro 30. These are very good prices. Also a la carte. The wine list has many fine choices, mostly regional, but is not extensive. The ingredients, too, are largely from the region. We had: Reh (roe deer), Schwarzwald trout and, for me, a real Wiener Schnitzel, made from veal (Euro 21, with fries and a salad). And it was, to quote Basil Fawlty "Veally, veally, good!" Creme Brule for dessert (the best you'll ever have!). The only small glitch was that we waited quite a while for the main course to arrive - nearly an hour after we had sat. This was acknowledged (but not explained) and earned us an on-the-house espresso at meal's end. Well worth a trip down the Schuttertal to Reichenbach!

We have been to the Gasthaus zur Eiche several times over the past few years (I have a sister-in-law living in Lahr) and, as the title says, we've never been disappointed. It is perhaps best experienced in the summer on their lovely Terrace that overlooks Lahr and area. We were there recently for a New Year's Eve meal. Other than it being perhaps a bit too over-lit for a late evening meal, it was a super dinner. The food, the service, the ambiance were all excellent. The place was packed as one had to reserve several days in advance of course, but there was no degradation whatsoever in quality or service. You have to drive a bit farther out of Lahr to reach the Langenhard (10 minutes) but it's well worth the short trip. We will go back to the Eiche and I suspect we will not be disappointed then either.

In the past, I have already eaten in this very good restaurant and this time I was once again very satisfied.
I ate a very good "red beet carpaccio with caramelized goat cheese" as starter, followed by a very good "veal steak with Asparagus and risotto". The cooking of the veal (requested as medium) was perfect.
The service was good and very friendly (only issue : in German only), the choice of local wines is interesting.
We paid around 100 € for 3 drinks, 3 starters, 3 main dishes and half a litter of local red wine.
I strongly recommend this place.

We come here each time when we visit friends in the region. Simple but fresh and good quality food . Cant wait to have the schnitzel with a hefeweizen again. Its a place lots of locals come so its always busy with a good atmosphere. Whenever there is euro or world champ football go and watch in zarkos as locals call it

The best Italian food outside of Italy, Maria and her staff are wonderful and very attentive. The ambience is light and refreshing. Crystal glasses on the all of the tables and Roman columns around the room. Food presentation that you eat with you eyes first and then the delicious el dente pasta with sauce. I had the spaghetti, shrimp and aubergine pasta, friends had bolognese and a pizza, all were very tasty. A time to practise your Italian, mange bene, viva bene!

You may be tempted to walk by this small and unassuming restaurant in the heart of Lahr - a short walk from the market square - but think twice before dong so. It has existed for a very long time in its present location (I was there 30 years ago when it was also a pizzeria) and although it changed hands more than 10 years ago it is well worth a visit. Pleasant staff, most welcoming, and really excellent dishes combine for a meal that is both affordable and memorable. We were there for a New Year's dinner and enjoyed a set menu, but if that is any indication of what the Gold River staff can put together daily, you will not be unhappy. The focus is on Italian, of course, and there is a lot of care and attention to detail evident in the preparation. There is much more than just pizzas available. A small restaurant, the atmosphere is one of intimacy and friendliness. We'll go back.
