This place oozes charm. Parts are hundreds of years old, floors are creaky, upstairs dining room seems only lit by candles. The food was a step or more above the usual---seems like a very serious kitchen and seems like locals come here for special occasions.

This restaurant deserves its top rating for Gmunden. The food is reliably good, the wines by the glass were also good. The owner stopped by our table to chat, make sure all was well, more than once, nice fellow.

Hunghrig und müde kehrten wir in die Autobahnraststätte in Lindach ein. Das Speisenangbeot ist überschaubar, aber dafür frisch zubereitet.
Leider gab's kein alkoholfreihes Weizenbier!
Das beste war die überaus fruendliche Mitarbeiterin, die uns sehr gut bediente.

I highly recommend this restaurant based on their service alone. My daughter went on a trip with her high school (from Canada) and they stopped at this restaurant for lunch. Unfortunately my daughter left her brand new iPhone at the restaurant and by the time they realized she had forgotten it, they could not go back to get it. I communicated with the restaurant via email to try and track down the iPhone. They were extremely helpful and responsive. They went out of their way to help us get it FedEx'ed back home safe and sound to Canada. We were thrilled to get the iPhone back and I was completely impressed with the service and response that we got back from the people at this restaurant.
My daughter also enjoyed the food here. They had a large variety of foods to choose from and she was happy with the food and service there for lunch.

Now Vorchdorf is not on everyones list of must visits. A tiny village on the way to Gmunden, I doubt that many people would think of stopping. But STOP here you should. This is truly a great find and one of the nicest restaurants in Upper Austria.
Tucked away in what was an old apartment building, the restaurant has true charm - with its ram-shackeled, rustic look and dining rooms on different levels. It provides a warm and welcoming feeling.
The staff are attentive, but not overwhelming. The service is good and professional and although I have enough German to get by in a restaurant - they were able to converse all that was needed in English.
We chose to each have the degustation menu, there were two options - so we chose 1 each. Something that is not always possible with degs menus. All I have to say is WOW! The presentation and different tastes and combinations is simply outstanding. The courses are served at a good pace, 7 courses is a lot to get through, so it is nice to have time in between to sit and savor what you have just eaten. We never once felt rushed.
They have a wonderful wine list and the staff were able to recommend a great wine to go with our meal.
This is absolutely worth the drive and the planning to get there. This one goes to the top of our list, we will be back. Except this time, we will make sure to book on of the guest rooms upstairs, so driving home is not required!
We felt that the price was very good for what we had, 2 x degs menus, bottle of wine and bottled water for €300. For the quality and taste of the food, the service and setting it is really a great price. In Vienna or Salzburg you could almost double this and I doubt that it would be as good.

This restaurant is outside of town so you need a car to get here. There was no English translation of the menu but we were able to figure things out. The waitress actually printed a picture off of their computer to show us the type of meat they were serving since we couldn't find a translation. W started with salads (a delicious honey balsamic dressing) and homemade spinach noodles in a brown butter, parmesan sauce. The "noodles" were the size of golf balls and were very good. We tried various items on the menu for our main courses; fresh local fish, chicken with a wild mushroom crème sauce, steak with peppercorn sauce and deer stew. The stew was outstanding. This is good local cuisine with excellent sauces and lovely presentation.

I have had eight dinners and a few lunches here while staying at the Gasthof Wirt am Bach to fish the Gmunder Traun and other nearby rivers. It is an excellent restaurant with some special local dishes, a very fine list of Austrian wines (with great descriptions for those unfamiliar), a nice selection of beers, and it's inexpensive. My last trip in mid-July 2012 I twice had a mushroom (fresh, locally picked) goulash that was amazing. But everything is good. The restaurant and gasthof serve a largely local clientele and it is always crowded for lunch and dinner. Very convivial. There is a large outdoor restaurant section with a retractable roof to cover all weather situations. Service is excellent. Worth a short drive from Gmunden and other local tourist destinations. Or stay at the Gasthof Wirt am Bach which is a pleasant hotel and very reasonable.

On my first evening in this wonderful part of Austria, a friend who lives right in Ohlsdorf took me here. What a fantastic place. It is in a perfect setting, nestled in a small valley. The evening was that perfect blend of cool with no wind that ushers in the beginning of summer.
The food matched the setting in every way. Each dish was filled with local produce and looked as good as it tasted. Not many non-Austrians come to this area but they should.... Especially when there are places like this one.

The tradition oozes out of every pore of this very typical farmhouse Gasthof where a warm welcome is served with great traditional Austrian food and drink. Go and find out for yourself!
