We picked this restaurant due to TripAdvisor reviews & also the fact that many Hungarian reviewers had given it high marks. The ratings proved well founded. A little difficult to find but on the edge of the CBD and <500m from our overnight stop at Mediterran Vendeghaz, who also recommended this traditional Hungarian restaurant. A relatively old street corner site with fine courtyard - maybe just too early for our visit! Inside the rooms have plenty of local paraphernalia & large tables. Hungarian speaking with a little German but with a clear English menu too. The menu is lengthy & DOES have vegetarian options as well as plenty of pork & duck. We had the "best from pork" with steaks, sausage & piles of butter noodles and the grilled chicken slices rolled in bacon. We expanded to a mixed pickle salad too. If there is a clear fault in these exceptionally tasty platefuls, it is how full the plates are. Neither of us have small appetites but we could not possibly finish what we were given & tried to say in a mix of sign language that we wished we'd been served less. We stopped deliberately so as at least to sample a dessert (1 between 2!) - the pleasingly dramatic flaming cottage cheese pie with apricot & almond - excellent. The wine list looked fine but we stopped on draught Hungarian beer & wine by the glass, though we tried a good Tokaji with our dessert & 2 glasses of palinka arrived gratis when we asked for the bill. Service was attentive & fast, and we felt we'd had a solid puszta evening. This was not cheap by Hungarian standards but €32 for 2 seemed very good value to us. A must if you need a good meal with a bit of class in this area.

My dessert supposed to be a pancake with cottage cheese and poppy-walnuts cream. Where? The dish tasted great, I'm satisfied just the product name was strange. Saturday early afternoon the restaurant was full. It's a great pick if you looking for fine dining with good wine menu.

When Reading through the reviews one thing is popping up very often: 'nothing special'. Now here is the thing: traditional italian food is - surprise: nothing special. It is not the fancy french cuisine, neither molecular gastronomy. And if you have ever been to Italy and had a real good, traditional lunch or dinner you know that portions are huge (serving is usually not in plates but in the actual dish that was used for cooking), food styling and design is basically non-existing or minimal and the only 'special' thing are the ingredients, so just the food.
If you go to Cezar with this in your mind you will not say it was nothing special. I know many people in Budapest who are happily willing to drive to Kecskemet (ok, only 1 hr drive but still) just because of the food served here. Would you do that for a 'nothing special' pasta or average pizza? I dont think so..
And if you complain about the place being crowded, would it be better empty? A full restaurant just means that people actually do love the food - and no matter what, the staff is always smiling and helpful.
Overpriced? Compared to what? I find it hilarious that scandinavians are complaining here that this place is overpriced. A penne with porcini mushroom and Parma ham is around 15EUR and no matter how hungry you are you cannot finish it; a pizza is around 17EUR..while a Big Mac Sandwich (not menu!) in Sweden is around 5EUR.
I know I am just one out of n+1 reviews but in my opinion this is an authentic traditional italian restaurant with good food and good service and without the fake italian decorations or other 'mandatory italian show elements' of similar restaurants.

Dear Foreigners, though the translation of the restaurant's name somewhat suggest that this is a fish restaurant, it will be different from those you might find on a seaside, nevertheless you will enjoy it :)
The menu has a good choice of different stuff made of fish or meat, they have also some dishes for vegetarians.
Of course the best choice is to start with is a "halászlé", which is a spicy fish soup ( fish is from Freshwater, you might find the taste somewhat different from seafish ) and to continue with "túrós csusza" which is a sort of hungarian noodles with cottage cheese.
You can also try fried fish , fish stew, and many other meat dishes too, also there are also tasty pancakes with fillings to finish with.
Service is quite OK, credit cards accepted, parking is possible in the front or in the small cross street.

In the Rozmaring restaurant we serve the most delicious tastes and dishes of our sunny Alfold with the legendary hospitality of the people in Kecskemet.
This is our favorite restaurant in downtown Kecskemét. Tasteful food, nice portions, no wonder that they are usually full, table reservation is advised. Friendly service. Better than many top rated restaurants in Budapest. They were felxible to prepare a sause without flour (gluten free).

This restaurant was highly reccommended to u by the reception staff at our hotel in Kecskemet and it is easy to see why. There was a relaxed atmosphere, no airs and graces, just fabulous food and excellent service. The menu was translated into severaal languages, making the dining options accessible to us. The efficient and busy waitress also willingly communicated in English for our benefit. Thank you to owners and workers for a memorable gastronomic and cultural experience. Go there!

Some of the dishes are really really good, however some others might not be the best choice. I have eaten here several times I definitely recommend the fried meals, and the soups!! The soups are absolutely amazing, very tasty, and so rich. If you want to eat real Hungarian Gulyas eat it here. The portions are so huge, you get a lot for your money. At the end you get 3 dices, and if you manage to get three 6s you do not have to pay for your meal :-) chances are low, but still this gives you a nice excitement.
I give 4 starts because of the service, the waiters could be a little better and also it is a little bit outside of the city, you cant reach without a car.

We had a lovely time in 48. It is a very atmospheric restaurant, spacious, well furnished with good taste. The service is elegant and attentive, and an English/German menu is available. After a tasty appetizer we had an absolutely fabulous starter: the cucumber soup. This cold soup would really befit a two star Michelin restaurant. Yummy to the top. Our expectations were now sky-high. As main course we had a beer-fried pork knuckle and slowly cooked chicken breast with pureed pea. Both were served a bit too quickly after the first course which was a pity. These main courses did not reach the stellar height of the starter but were still really tasty. A separate mentioning for their beautiful arrangement on the plate. As wine we had a Villa Tolnay Chardonnay which was full bodied. We found the price also quite reasonable considering the excellent quality. Much recommended!
