Katakolo (Greek: Κατάκολο) is a seaside town in the municipality of Pyrgos in western Elis, Greece. It is situated on a headland overlooking the Ionian Sea and separating the Gulf of Kyparissia from the rest of the Ionian. It is 11 km west of Pyrgos. The small village of Agios Andreas, which in ancient times was the natural harbour for Ancient Olympia, lies northwest of Katakolo. A railway connects Katakolo with Pyrgos and Olympia..

We stopped in Katakolo for a day as part of a cruise. There is not much in the town.
Hero Gyro is on the last street in town. There are only three streets in town, the waterfront street, the “shops” street and the last street away from the water. There are a number of similar places but this one had tables outside under umbrella’s and the prices were the same as the others - prices are posted on a Sandwich board on the sidewalk. The food was fresh and tasty and prices way less than the “Gucci” type cafes on the restaurant strip. While we were eating a number of staff from the cruise ship came and sat down next to us ordering beers – as the town is small the cruise ship staff is as close to locals as you can come so that was another good sign. Worth walking the two blocks off the main street.

We ate a late lunch at Karousos after returning from a shore excursion to Olympia. What drew us to this particular eatery was the wonderful scent of roasting meat that wafted through the area as we were shopping. When we approached the outdoor Seating area, a waiter was quick to lead us to a table with a friendly smile and a couple of menus and hung around long enough to take our drink and appetizer orders. On his return, we were brought some good local beer, quickly followed by some delicious calamari and lemon. After the calamari we had the baked feta cheese and a couple of gyros platters. The meat was well done, crispy on the edges, and very tasty. The food was great! Our waiter was courteous and responsive, and follow up was adequate but not suffocating. While dining, we were entertained by a roving bouzouki player who offered to let me play a few chords while the table next to us threw back shots of ouzo. Karousos had kind of a relaxed Carlos and Charlie's feel to it. It was comforting that our ship was visible about a five minute walk away. We did not see any surprises on our bill and considered our time at Karousos as a fun way to bade farewell to Greece.

After many years of gastronomic peregrination in Greece, I have found THE reference of a Greek family taverna. The place, the food and the atmosphere are really genuine and true ! The owners are sooo friendly. We felt like being at home ! When Reading the stupid comment written by Niikii, I feel like being really hurted ; his comment is really gratuitously nasty (probably written by a coward competitor ?). I can confirm that his opinion does absolutely not reflect the reality ! The quality of food is just amazing, like the final invoice. A large choice of home-made specialities, a very nice home wine, a very efficient service ! We've been there on Tuesday 11 August, and have ordered moussaka & pasticcio for Thursday ; they did it especially for us ! I really look forward to visit this area again, as we fell in love with Mare Dei Ionian Resort and the O Savouras taverna !!! With kindest greetings from Luxembourg

The Mediterranean is such a wonderful colour in this part of Greece, that you feel good even before you start in on the beers. The Porto was part of our 'pub' crawl on the day we had at Katakolo, and a very welcome addition. To be honest, all the bars, cafes and restaurants are much of a muchness and all quite similar, and, obviously, to be competitive all their prices are about the same. So, which one you go to, is on a total whim. They nearly all have roughly the same amazing setting and they each have a friendly atmosphere, so go and have a good time!

Fantastic place with very friendly people. Excellent fresh fish, good prices. Before making our choice, we have been invited to visit the kitchen and select the fresh fish. Absolutely nothing to say ; even the white house wine was above any expectations !

Traditional family-owned business offering a variety of Greek dishes. Wide range of appetisers as well as main courses complemented by Greek beverages including wine of our own production. Specialising in grilled dishes, offering vegetarian options too. Friendly environment combined with high standards of cleanliness. Desert of the day is on the house!
we'd had a long drive and knocked on the door at 6.30pm not knowing the restaurant doesn't open until 8... we were exhausted and hungry and so we said we would have a drink and wait... the chap who owns the restaurant fired up the...MoreThank you for your preference .. hope to see you again!!!

usual mediocre food at reasonable prices. Ask for the menu if youare a tourist and check the prices. We are served refried potatoes. Mediocre cleanliness. Nice place by the sea. Mediocre local wine. For the character of the place, a reduction of 1 euro per dish would make it the most popular in the area. Details spoil the whole picture.

A breath of town Beroias, and in the center of Vergina, next to the Archaeological Domain Aigli is a restaurant where the impressions steals the wonderful filled with Olive trees and yard with all sorts of flowers.H Aigli is open from 10 in the morning and is a welcome break from the tension of the day as also reveals her name. Ideal for coffee and lunch. At night the area is changing.
We stopped here for lunch during our private tour of the area (recommended by our tour driver Nikos with Aksi Tours owned by Theodoros Mamousis). It was delicious! We ordered the stuffed peppers with potatoes, and an eggplant dish (both vegetarian). I personally hate eggplant, but I ate half the dish because it was so amazingly prepared. Many locals were eating there, and Nikos personally dines there with his family as well which is why he took us.

all ingredients are top quality, fast service, me and my kids visit it or order take away. Sometimes too crowded and noisy, tables one next to the other, still service is an asset of fast and gentle personell !
