Breakfast, lunch, dinner, after work get together's, birthday parties, business lunches, a romantic table for two, family gatherings - or no reason at all. Enjoy the unique ambiance of the iconic Works Restaurant and Bar, situated in all that remains of the historic Kaiti Freezing works. Fabulous food, warm friendly atmosphere, professional service. Exceptional wedding venue hurry book now.
We made it into Gisborne on Boxing day with our two dachshunds in tow, hoping to find somewhere dog friendly for lunch. The Works surpassed all our expectactions... we sat under the vines on the patio, enjoyed excellent service, a bottle of chardonay and lunch. The menu was a small selection, but there was something for everyone. My husband felt like fish and chips, which he smacked his lips over. I had the marinated fish (ceviche) with wild rice. It was fantastic! We finished off with a blue cheese served with freshly made lavosh and a raisin preserve to polish off the last of the Chardonnay. What a fabulous afternoon under the vines. My dogs were welcomed and because the staff were relaxed, so were the dogs. I would recommend this gourmet pub.

Really good place to eat, menu has great variety and the food is delicious. Very impressed with how fast it came out from kitchen when restaurant was busy. Great service too.

Very very good coffee. Scrambled eggs perfect and omelets really well made. Happy staff who seem to never have a bad hair day! Recommend. On main street of Gisborne (Gladstone Rd) and open for breakfast and lunch.

Arrived in Gisborne, staying with friends, they took us for a short walk to lunch, this place is great, the kitchen shuts later than most, we had the opportunity to order brunch, or lunch, I had eggs Benedict because I could, very tasty and worth the price, those I was with had tapas, Mac cheese balls, fish tacos, and slow cooked brisket, the wine list was good, as was their beer list. Enjoyable and truly unexpected.

Nice pub/restaurant looking out on the harbour that serves decent pub food. Good selection of drinks. We shared nachos for starters and they were quite good. The mains (veggie burger and burrito) were OK. The salad accompanying the burrito had too much dressing on it; the burger could have done with a species dressing. Our expectations weren’t very high, so overall we were satisfied.

Ultimate fine dining in Gisborne- Michelin Style Dining, Bistro style lunches
Friday night dinner. Nice simple french inspired menu. Food was well prepared and towards silver service style. An ok regional wine list and we enjoyed our fish with a good bottle of Gisborne Bridge Estate chardonnay.
Book ahead recommended although was quite quiet on the night we ate.

This is a first rate restaurant serving excellent, imaginative and reasonably priced food.
My mouth is still watering, 2 mths later. I can not speak highly enough of the flavours, freshness and taste of each incredible course. Attention to detail at this restaurant is number 1. Service, wine, food and fabulous location! I can absolutely highly recommend and was definitely the same response as from our well traveled American guests!

Definitely great for steak! They dont hold back on size. Yummy meal with mushroom sauce, veges galore and potato slice. Would come back in a flash. Only upset was having to wait for the food to come as was so busy there. Worth the wait.

Stopped by for lunch with the family but was disappointed by the limited offerings.
Don't get me wrong, what was available was really good and the fact we could help ourselves to as much cream, yoghurt or butter as we wanted was a nice touch too.
Also the place itself, on top of Muirs bookshop was a very pleasant venue to be in! Pity about the rain as being Now to sit outside in Sunshine would have been awesome!
However we still come back to the limited menu! Had their been a bit more than a few cakes and frittata on offer then I would gave been happy with a 4 star rating.
Nice place to sit and have a drink with a really nice bit of cake BUT it could have been so much more.
