It is the major town of the administrative Tararua District, the easternmost of the districts in which the Regional Council has responsibilities. Terrible says it all really. Have stopped in several times while traveling through. Service is consistently slow and unfriendly. They always seem understaffed, and on the last visit, we were ignored for a good five minutes, before we just walked out. The food, when it does eventually arrive is just average. On one occasion the top on the cheese burger was upside down! Not going back. No matter how hungry we are.

This was my second time dining here and for my birthday to be exact. The food was amazing! The portion size seems small however it is actually quite filling. Drinks are well priced too which can be costly when you dine out in larger towns/cities. The Barrelhouse is worth a visit! Meals are priced well, atmosphere is great and the staff are friendly. Will definitely visit again in the future :)

The Vault cafe is a family run business, with a great local Kiwi atmosphere. Situated in one of Dannevirkes oldest, historic buildings the Vault has a great vibe, loads of space and a feel of history. We have an amazing selection of home baking (100% baked on the premises), including some amazing Gluten Free delights. We also have an array of savory cabinet items and a stunning menu, including salads, all day breakfasts and our very popular light meals from toasted sandwichs to kumara fries. We proudly serve Hawthorne Coffee and have a huge array of delicious herbal teas, from T Leaf T, as well as smoothies, milkshakes & our new Matcha green tea lattes. We now stock a great range of Kiwi made retail items from hot sauces, to Honeywraps to Soy melts and Lipbalms.
Having stopped at the Vault Cafe several times for coffee (and sometimes morning tea), I have found that not only is the coffee excellent, the customer service and environment is perfect. The Cafe is in an old bank which adds to the appeal.

We have stopped in the town on our way to Wellington. After quick check of tripadvisor reviews of local restaurants we decided to try Masala Junction. The food really surprised us, it was very tasty and large portions. The service here was also excellent. Thumbs up!

Passing through from Wellington and stopped for lunch, spotted the sign and thought Yes. On a cold day what better than a yummy Pho!. Sevice great, friendly so took recommendation of Beef Pho, was excellent and I"ve been to Vietnam. For $10.90 was excellent value. I will always stop here on my way through Dannevirke.

Best Pizza place in Dannevirke.
I was not disappointed, A newly opened Pizza venue in town.
I was informed by staff that t would take about 20-30 minutes, as it did. keep in mind that all the staff are new and it will take alittle time to get faster.
in saying that, the speed that the pizzas were done did not affect the end result.
for me, I give a rating of "Yummy"

First time to this Indian, ordered the mix platter, samosa was to die for, just the right amount spices, not too large and cooked perfectly. Mint dressing was very tasty. Shared two currys, medium to hot. Chicken chettinad and kayak lamb. Absolutely lovely and full of flavor.

Supporting our farming community with our rural theme! All the great kiwi dishes available We also cater for those who are gluten free, everything is baked right here in the kitchen. Come and experience the rural setting here with us.
Stopped here for a takeaway lunch. It was quite busy and I needed something gluten free. The guy said they could make me a chicken Sandwich. I thought that would be great. I said can you toast it as gluten free bread is nicer toasted. He said yes. Went for a walk to kill time. Picked up our lunches and got in car to drive to Palmerston North and open the container and it was a bit of a mushy mess with chips!!
I thought stuff it I'm not paint for what clearly wasn't a toasted bread chicken Sandwich!! And I didn't want chips!! The girl in there wasn't helpful and wasn't going to give my friend our money back while I parked car again. Then when I went in the guy who served us came to counter. He said that their open chicken Sandwich came with chips and I said about it was supposed to be a toasted chicken Sandwich and I wouldn't have ordered chips in case of cross contamination.
Anyway I said clearly it was a miscommunication and he gave us our money back.

Situated on the main street of Dannevirke, with plenty of street parking, this is a good option for a pit stop when travelling through this town. There is both indoor and outdoor Seating, the latter split between some tables out front on the footpath and a spacious area on an empty lot alongside the cafe. So there is always likely to be a table available. The service is fine and the cakes a treat - there is a range of options displayed in the cabinet; we chose the peanut butter cake which was fresh and delicious. The coffee is Mojo, which would not be my first choice as it lacks flavour, but it was well made by the staff with a good crema.
