I'll keep this one simple.
The layout of this place has relics and the bizarre from all over the world. So comfy and warm. If you're alone or with friends, there's plenty to look at.
Beer selection is in the dozens. Belgians, Euros, American, you name it. All the liquor you'd need, though I think beer is the order of the day here.
Food wise, there are page after page of continental and comfort food classics served into the wee hours. Tasty and of quality - just remember you're still having western dishes prepared by a single Chinese cook who has a lot of stock to manage. I'm quite particular and I really enjoyed my food.
Service - we were here three nights straight for drinks, though only one included food. Staff is a little bit smartphone-centric (you need to call them over usually), but when things are ordered they come fast and to order. No pretense - all are welcome. Local expats seem well comfortable here, but it's still a bit of a reserved environment.
Strollers is a gem for the expats in Dalian, and I think you'll enjoy a bit of a wind down here. Half smoking, half non-smoking, though you'll still pick up a bit of the smoke in the nonsmoking section - you should appreciate that they're trying. Have a few beers, catch the F1 match or BBC news, and enjoy the awesome decorations.
Support this business so it sticks around.

EuroBake in Kaifaqu Station, Dalian, across the square from the train station, is very popular with North Americans in China, especially when they get a little homesick for Canadian or American food as Eurobake has burgers and fries just like home. Also, Mr. Beer is next door and The Kings Bar is practically across the street, along with two dozen others in Five Colour City.

Coming all the way from New York, Brooklyn Bar and Restaurant is an independently owned business who aims to bring a diverse, unique and vibrant dining experience to Dalian. We bring to the table a style of food that combines modern creative and traditional authentic American food in a Brooklyn-styled restaurant experience. Our ingredients are sourced both locally and internationally to guarantee we meet the highest standards in food quality. These ingredients perfectly compliment our house made bread, desserts, sauces and sausages, which we freshly prepare and make daily. We are immensely proud to make all our own food in house. The only thing we care more about than what ingredients go into our kitchen, is the food that comes out of it. Call us fussy, but if the food doesn't pass the standards of our trained & professional chefs, we won't let it leave our kitchen. Another thing very important to us is our staff. We've always treated our employees like they're family because we firmly believe that happy employees makes for better tasting food! So rest assured that you are getting the best quality and best service when you dine at Brooklyn! It is our hope that every customer that walks in our doors, leaves with a smile on their face and a dining experience they won't forget! We don't hope you enjoy your food... WE KNOW YOU WILL!
I've been living in Dalian for four years now, and frequent Brooklyn Bar consistently, as it always delivers top-notch western food, as well as serves high quality cocktails and beers. I have been over 30 times, and never once had a bad experience. The owner, Wayne, is a beauty, and he has taken the time to train his staff well in the food industry.
I can't recommend just any item on the menu, as they are all great, however some of my favourites are the wings, pizzas, burrito, and kimchi burger. The portions are large and the prices are fair.
Go check it out!

Huang Cheng Lao Ma, located at Marine Square in Dalian, is little know to foreigners, but is one of the most popular hot pot cuisine destinations in Dalian.
About 4-5 floors total, the first 3-4 floors are open tables for walk in diners and the upper floor are private rooms for groups.
The food is authentic Sichuan hot pot, with both spicy and mild dipping sauce prepared. Many different types of ingredients can be ordered to dip in the sauces, including mutton, gourmet beef, shrimp paste and vegetables.
Service is excellent, staff are well trained and efficient.
This restaurant seems to be incredibly crowded with Chinese patrons every night. Its best to have an advance reservation.
Hot pot cuisine is very popular across China, and Huang Cheng Lao Ma brings authentic, tasty, and spicy Sichuan to the go go growth city of Dalian.
Highly recommend - we actually preferred this restaurant to most of the local seafood palace restaurants. Enjoy.

This place is a medium sized cafe, very neat and clean, good comfortable decor and serves some mean drinks/ smoothies, and great food like Sandwiches, steak, Soup,Salads, Pizza, pasta and side dishes. This is located near the downtown area of Dalian. To access this one has to walk under the bridge , cross the road and town center and reach Tian Jin street. If in this area, you must visit the place. Service is great, English speaking staff and some top notch food.

Most interesting is the building. My guess is, likely an older Russian building, from before the city became Dairen and was still Dalny.
Fish is obviously fresh, simply prepared, letting natural flavors speak for themselves. It is possible that for Dalian, the perception might be that the place is expensive. But if you stay away from the very highest priced items, prices are by no means unreasonable.
Service is efficient, no issue there either.
Unfortunately, the major turnoff is that the non-smoking policy is not being enforced. There are non-smoking signs on every column, very visible. People smoking underneath nearly all of them, but staff doing nothing.

This restaurant has very good dumplings. The variety of dumplings are enormous. Good service and quick. It is not the cleanest place however.

Shang Palace is the trademark Chinese Restaurant of the Shangri la chain. Took dinner at the restaurant after a Long flight.
Ordered the stir fried goose meat and mushrooms, and the fried XO sticky rice. Both potions were enormous and I'm sure would have fed four persons. Good food and the restaurant offered a fine ambiance with free wifi. Jasmine tea was limitless. Very nice dining choice with pleasant staff. Surprisingly inexpensive.

Like more Dalian restaurant you need to choose what to eat before you sit down. Very wide chose of seafood and cooking styles. Recommend the squid with pepper. They use fried shrimp and garlic which gives it beautiful aroma.
Scallops are nice steamed. Perhaps a little overlooked with the fresh prawns and scallops. Food is on the blander side. It is good if you don't like things too salty.
Good choices tea if you are into different chinese tea which can cost up to $35 a pot.
Highly suggest you come with Chinese speaker or have google translate ready.
Staff don't speak English and all
Writing is in Chinese. So for example after you choose a squid, you need to explain how to cook it.
Lucky you can pay MasterCard and Amex. Other restaurnat only take union pay.

Delicious Chun Bing(Spring Pan cakes)! You can get an assortment of different vegetables such as bean sprouts as well as chives for the fillings of the pan cakes. What happens it's they prepare the pancakes for you and you need to order side vegetable dishes to go with the pancake to make it a flavourful one.
