Very nice staff.
Lovely view on the Rio Douro! We were advised to share 2 starters with three, since that would be enough.. Melon with delicious local dry-cured ham and some local cheeses.
The steak served for the main course where excellent.
All in all, better then we expected.

We had a very good pizza for a low price. The place is nothing special and the service is ok. Worth going for the food.

How lucky to have found this place.
'O Cantinho' may not be a trendy, stylish place, but once you have experienced its magic, you'll go back...
Our experience after many stays in (whole) Portugal has learnt us to look for typical places where you meet the locals.
Resto or taverne, or café, as long as it is clean and feels comfortable.
And what's on the plate is much more important than decoration and view.
Sofia and Vitor -young parents and proud owners- instantly make you feel at home and serve fab. Portuguese food. Both quality AND quantity is imported to them, cause the portions are huge!
Fish or meat, and depending of what's in the house, it's all prepared with care and one feels that here they know how food should be prepared, and served...
Fried, cooked or grilled, perfection is ever so close, even in simple dishes, and so is the presentation.
And the price? Unbelievable! In all honesty, we would pay much more than double this price in Belgium and the chance of having such a friendly 'from the heart' service...none existant.
What could be more enjoyable?
We went 4 nights in a row and payed between €32.10 and €36.20 for 3 adults!?
'Entradas'**, main dish and drinks. Desserts...on occasion...if we found space...
**In Portugal it is a tradition to put some dishes on the table, like for starters.
These 'Entradas' could be olives, bread and butter, ham, cheese or sometimes all of it...
If you don't want any of these, just ignore or give it back and it will not be on your bill.
But when like in 'O Cantinho' it only costs ab. €4 for 3p, why not enjoy a bit of starters?
Drinks are cheap and having a beer for only €0.90 and coffee for €0.60 add's up to the dream, while it is quite amazing to have an exellent dish of fish or meat for a price lower th. €8.
And we also met some wonderful local people. They all were proud to welcome us as if it was there own place. It felt so good; it felt like home!
This experience had to be shared and in fact, it is a shame that this fantastic place with adorable owners and guests had no feedback on Tripadvisor yet.
We have tried 1-3* restaurants in the past, and it never gave the satisfaction that we had now...

As soon as I entered my memory took me back to my great-aunt's house at dinner time! This is the type of place where you get the no fuss real homemade type of Portuguese food. As you might expect from this kind of restaurant the portions are generous. Even their fries are hand-cut, no frozen fries here!
Family type of restaurant, I'd highly recomment it to anyone in the area.

This restaurant has a fantastic veal in the oven along with excellent potatoes and rice.
The veal in this region is soft and tasty, Alvarenga is the capital and makes a triangle with Arouca and Castelo de Paiva.
The animals are of Arouquesa breed, considered as an excellent meat.
O Geraldo is the best restaurant to eat meat in castelo de Paiva.

A very nice informal restaurant. The waiter doesn't speak English but just let him decide what to eat. You will get the finest local dishes (kind of tapas ).

Fantastic! Amazing Terrace with a breathtaking view of the Douro river. The food is great - hadn't tasted hake fillets this good in a long time, fresh and perfectly cooked! The whole feeling to this place is just perfect. No frills, just a relaxed, unpretensious, friendly environment.

Although the people were very friendly it was a bit of a challenge to order our food because they didn't speak English. The food itself and the starters were good. Also the wine was fine. Sitting outside was no problem because we made the reservation earlier that day.

Stopped en-route to Porto solo on motorcycle, just caught restaurant out the corner of my eye past junction on N108. Only one car in car park but hungry so stopped - had left Braganca very early and feeling peckish! Little Portuguese (me) and no English (her - lovely lady) but with other customer help I placed an order. 15 minutes later, pork chops, roast potatoes, rice, salad, 1/2 litre red wine, bread and water later I was really enjoying the food, ambience and views over the Douro Valley sat on the patio this sunny lunchtime. Noticed that the restaurant inside was quite large and plush, small bar / tables adjacent and toilets were good. No room for pudding, I thought the meal worth Euro 30 but expected to be charged around Euro 20 - cost was Euro 9.10 (£6.00) - I was stunned, remonstrated that something must have been left off bill, but no. I left Euro 20 -fully satisfied and very happy I stopped, also very nice to see the pleased reaction when I left the tip - excellent, recommended, go!
