Cheap prices & a lot of junk food. I can't find another reason to visit this restaurant!

Beautiful lake-side location, at 5pm the place had a staff of about 10 waiters milling around aimlessly and all the tables (about 50) were empty. When we asked where to sit, we were directed under a tree as everything was reserved. It was hard to get menus and obviously the place was being prepared for a big party. Once we checked the mainly sushi offerings and prices, we realized that we would feel quite abused if we would stay there so we cut an elegant retreat. Nobody actually noticed or cared. Back up the hill towards Bolzano we discovered a lovely local restaurant where we enjoyed one of our best meals in Italy.

We have tried 4 Michelin restaurants this time visiting South Tirol. I love Zur Rose for not only its excellent service, but also its friendliness and accommodating. The dishes were delicious and well prepared. I couldn't go for the full tasting menu as I was still too tired from jet-lag. Despite that, dining here was a wonderful experience and I will love to go back for the full tasting menu.

My wife and I ate lunch last Saturday at this wonderful first rate Michelin-starred restaurant which is in a separate building next door to the Villa Orso Grigio Hotel, which has its own dining room separate from this restaurant, but with the same menu and same kitchen. Ownership and management of both locations is by relatively young twin brothers. Their father, who is now retired, owned it before and both sons started in the business when they were quite young. Their mother still putters around tending to the floral arrangements and Gardens. One couple was leaving as we entered, but while we were in the restaurant there were no other diners. The chef/owner Christian Bertole, who appears regularly on a cooking program on Italian TV, came out to welcome us. You can access some of his cooking demonstrations on YouTube. His twin brother, Renzo, acts as manager, is a highly regarded sommelier and is in charge of the 35,000 bottle wine cellar carved out of rock. Yes, that was no mistake, 35,000 bottles! We toured the wine cellar, which was a terrific experience in itself, and the oldest bottle I saw was from 1960. The service was astonishingly good--attentive without hovering over us. The menu changes monthly with the seasonal availability of ingredients. Since it is now winter, venison is on the menu. Generally, the produce and herbs used in the cooking are grown behind the restaurant on their own land. In winter when this is impossible, it seems that Christian would rather not serve anyone else's vegetables, so you won't find salad or vegetable accompaniments on the menu at this time of year, except for winter veggies such as artichoke or radicchio. I can't stress enough the high level of care put into each course and their presentations. When coming to the restaurant from Trento be sure to pass through the tiny village of Ronzone and head up the mountain towards Bolzano. I you get to the sign indication that you are leaving Ronzone, you have gone too far. If you look very carefully you will you see the powder-blue sign on the right hand side for where to turn left to get here. We drove back and forth for a half hour before we found Via Regole. Not one of the several people we stopped to ask in Ronzone could direct us here even though the restaurant has been open for about 30 years, according to what we were told by the maitre d', Vincenzo. There is free parking on the street in front of the restaurant. Be sure to allocate three hours to a meal here if you have the full 4 courses available. This is not the place to rush through a meal. While this is not an inexpensive place to dine, we nevertheless felt it was well worth the money paid for the fabulous dining experience. I don't think we have ever been treated so royally at any restaurant anywhere in the world. The care with which each dish was prepared and presented was evident. We each ordered a glass of wine and Vincenzo opened a new bottle of each and left the bottle at our table after pouring each of us a glass, something I had not seen before. At most restaurants when a glass of wine is ordered, the glass is poured from an already open bottle and taken away, or the glass is poured away from your view and brought to you sans bottle. Each dish we ordered was explained completely in perfect English and not in the snooty way we sometimes encounter when we dine at a so-called fine restaurant. Considering how far it is from civilization, this place is a destination in itself and well worth any detour you have to make to get here. I can't say enough about the beautiful, yet rustic decoration of the dining rooms, the quality of the ingredients and the quantity of food served in each course--so much, in fact, that we were hard pressed to finish each course, as delicious as each was. We were presented with an amuse bouch first course plus a "pre-dessert" course of tasty creme brulee at no extra cost. Ny only criticism, and this may be more attributable to my tastes than any shortcoming on the restaurant's part, is that the flavorings are rather subtle and not bold. We could very easily get used to this kind of lifestyle, if we could afford it! Highly, highly recommended. If Trip Advisor had a 6 star rating, this restaurant would qualify for it. Elegant, classy, refined--these adjectives apply and yet don't fully describe the place.

OSTARIA AL CASTELLO The estate tavern with the panoramic view from its large Terrace is worth a trip. Enjoy the wide range of Elena Walch wines while gazing at the scenic view of Lake Caldaro. The wines can be accompanied by cold regional delicacies - chosen specialties from Alto Adige to pair with your wine choice. After a guided vineyard tour, it is the ideal place to experience, in a glass, the vineyards you just visited.
A great find. Nice tour and then a tasting and lunch on the Terrace. Superb views. Food good and service great. They did very well considering the wind got up. There range of wines and I particular the Chardonnay was very good. Thanks a lot for your nice words. We are very happy you enjoyed your stay in Castel Ringberg!

For the Price euro 65 pr pers incl Wine This is not Worth a mention.
Well the food is not bad but simply the good taste we did not find.
This restaurant gives an impression that they are the top - they are not.
The food really needs more taste and generally higher quality.
The Wines are served after the food arrived to table, so the food were getting cold while serving Wine.
Pinot Noir served with temp of approx 25 gr c. - not terrific.
This is a winery-restaurant. So please do not serve your cheapest Pinot Bianco - which is quite bad - when we buy we Big meny. show us that you can make good Wine.
From us no recommends at all.
For This Price we have eaten much better in Many Many places.

This place was a real find. It's a bit out of the center of Kaltern, but it is well worth the short walk uphill. The service was attentive and the food was comfort and delicious. We were particularly impressed by the unusual and yummy Krautsalat. Although we didn't get to sit outside (because it was already filled up) there is a really nice outdoor Seating area. But, the inside is cozy and welcoming as well. Another high point of the meal was the pfefferlingen Knoedel with butter and parmesan cheese. This place was delicious food at a great value and I would definitely recommend it.

Very good typical local food. The polenta is always great and so is the carne salad. Sitting outside gives you a nice view under the shade of beautiful trees. The inside is not wonderful, but ok. A perfect place to start a walk or to end one. Prices are very reasonable. Recommended

From the experiences we had eating out in the area, this was by far the best evening. The places is real modern looking with beautiful interior. The waiters were real friendly and you go tell they took their job seriously and also knew what they were serving. We had a great risotto with duck. The risotto was perfectly seasoned and I was actually surprised that risotto could taste this good. After our dinner we sat out on the Terrace overlooking the beautiful surrounding while drinking a cop of coffee. For the quality of the food and the location I think the price was real fair. The evening before we had had a much more expensive dinner, but this was by far the better one.
