Tried QUEX barn for Sunday Breakfast, following a recommendation. We weren’t disappointed..the food and coffee were excellent - local {ish} produce and well cooked.
I only gave 4 stars because on arrival we were told to wait in the restaurant to be seated and when someone finally did come over they said we could sit anywhere we liked!..and they tried to charge us twice at the end. Probably just innocent confusion but did slightly mar an other wise great meal.
I recommend the set breakfast with an extra of black pudding!

The long-established pub The Powell is the oldest hostelry in Birchington. Named after Squire Powell of Quex, the High Sheriff of Kent in 1823. Enjoy elegance, soft hues and classic touches which accentuate the original features of the building. We welcome families, couples and friends to enjoy and relax by having a drink, a light lunch, evening meal or Sunday lunch. John our head chef is forever updating and tweaking our menus to make sure you have the best and tastiest experience possible. Lunchtimes: Our Lunch menu is varied, serving light bites, sandwiches/paninis and typical homemade pub lunch options. Served 12-3pm (Monday & Saturdays), 12-4pm (Tuesday - Fridays). Evenings: The Evening menu includes A La Carte options which are served 6 - 9:30pm (Tuesday - Saturday), additionally our pub lunch options are also available Tuesday - Thursday evenings as a summer extra. Fish Specials are available Tuesday - Saturdays evenings and are changed regularly depending on the local catch. Sunday Lunch: Our delicious Sunday lunches are served between 12 - 5pm and include a selection of meats, vegetarian options and fish specials.

Gorgeous food and Deserts.
Have plenty of live music and entertainment such as Clairvoyants who are very good indeed.

Ten booked for an early evening dinner as we had two young children in the party. The staff were friendly and efficient. The food was excellent with lots to choose from for the meat eaters and vegetarians alike. In truth the vegetarian menu is more extensive than most restaurants. The steaks were perfectly cooked to order. The only downside was the scampi which appeared to be the prepared frozen variety.
That said, we had a lovely meal in pleasant surroundings and will definitely go again.

Excellent food at a really competitive price. The restaurant itself is more like a cafe, but that has its own charm as you can watch as the chef prepares the food in a single wok, before your eyes. Great fun. Or you can order a takeaway and enjoy the sumptuous food at home. Either way you won't be disappointed.

Six of us met up on Saturday night, had booked in advance as know this place is very popular. We all had poppadoms then shared starter's. We selected our mains, and shared selected rice, nann breads, onion bargies. All the food was hot, delicious, with hot plates, served with a smile from our efficient server. The food was amazing, price's reasonable, staff wonderful, that's why we keep going back! Thanks to Ali and all the team...

Great coffee, home made soup, fresh sandwiches and good lasagne and hand made cakes, even gluten free! Never expected such an expansive menu and everything was fresh, well cooked and tasty. Busy place but well staffed and service was adequate. However, the view, a full on sea view to soak up! We loved it, freezing cold outside snug in the cafe and absorbing a beautiful bay sea view. Parking is on street and 2 minute walk. There is a ramp and the cafe is accesible, accessible toilet on the beach esplanade open all year.

We didn't know this cafe was here. So found it. By chance. It is the entrance to the Carlton cinema building. A beautiful old building. The cafe is very well and aptly decorated. Clean And fresh. The staff very efficient (not over chatty). The menu was disappointing so we only had drinks. The drinks were fine but we felt a little pricey against other local places.
