A late creation by area standards, Bergisch Gladbach was founded in 1856 as a city district comprising several smaller (and older) towns, with a total population of about 105,000. The 10th-century St. Johann Baptist Church at Refrath is Bergisch Gladbach's oldest building. The Bensberg Rathaus (or town hall, nicknamed "Affenfelsen," or Monkey Rock) is a nationally known tourist attraction. Schloss Bensberg and Schloss Lerbach, both former castles, are now among Germany's top luxury hotels.

The restaurant is located near the city centre of Bergisch Gladbach. Parking space is sparse. The interior is decorated in Argentinian style. The have a huge indoor charcoal grill which is quite a show. I like to sit next to it. The steaks are awesome. This people know their job. The service is quick. The gents serving charming and nice.

The last time I went to this restaurant was back in the mid-seventies and how it has changed to the positive !
The decor is what I can only describe as "cosy" with lots of wood panelling on the walls, old pictures and objects, including old water syphons and droepelminnas. Where does this strange name of the restaurant come from ? Well, it´s basically the local name for a three-legged metal coffee pot and there are several samples to be seen in the restaurant. "Droepel" means "drip and "minna" is the housekeper !
The food leans towards Mediterranean cuisine and is certainly good value compared with the two famous Michelin-starred restaurants in Bergisch Gladbach. It´s impossible to compare and I would certainly not attempt to do so here. However, suffice it to say that the four and six-course menus here are tasty, well presented and a fraction of the cost of those at the aforementioned hotels. The choice of wine is certainly not to be scoffed at either. As the menu was a surprise, I wasn´t sure which wine to choose, but the waiter advised me well and I was very pleased with his choice.
I can certainly recommend this restaurant for a relaxed, tasty and all-round positive dining experience. Guten Appetit !!

Great food and great service. The steak was absolutely delicious cooked to my liking - the atmosphere was friendly and the whole experience was very enjoyable. Although we live a long way away, we know our friends who we dined with will be back.

"Cologne's chic gourmet set love meeting at the Trattoria Enoteca for lively lunches, chatty catch-ups and romantic tables for two. Tucked away inside the stately Grand Hotel Schloss Bensberg, the restaurant and its moreish Mediterranean menu attracts a well-coiffed international crowd and businessy types. Relaxed and homely – the interior at Trattoria Enoteca has lemon walls hand-painted with vines, ruby red curtains and potted palms, and the hearty Italian-led menu includes favourites such as the hand-tapped beef carpaccio with spinach salad, citrus olive oil, old balsamic and Parmesan cheese; the Amalfi lemon risotto; and the ragoût of organic lamb shoulder with egg, Parmesan and homemade oricchette noodles. "
We had an excellent meal in this restaurant. The 3* star Michelin was closed on this day so we eat here and it was excellent. Superb staff; great food and lovely wine

"German gastronauts are well aquainted with the interior of Vendôme, the famously 3-Michelin-starred restaurant located inside the Grand Hotel Schloss Bensberg in Cologne. The restaurant itself look like a rather well kept Prada store, understated and chic with splashings of sage green and discreet ruby red, and the glossy gourmet crowd are enamoured with the acclaimed menu created by super-chef Joachim Wissler. Star dishes include the calf's head in a parsley-horseradish vinaigrette wild celery and aioli of capers; the grilled saddle of lamb from Müritz with green olives in lamb tea and ricotta gnocchi; and the Manjari chocolate fondant with frozen blackberry foam. Vendôme boasts a 900+ wine list. "
Was surprised to have been able to secure a reservation for dinner on a Thursday evening. A beautiful evening, the restaurant is located in a stand alone building in the grounds of the hotel and offers a picturesque view of Cologne. Staff are polite, friendly, professional. We opted for the 5 course tasting menu with accompanying wine which represented excellent value at €215 per person. I read an earlier review that thought the wines served with this menu were below parr but I would have to disagree. Ok, they were a bit off the beaten track but were all delicious and rather generous portions. Of course, you also get an amuse bouche, delicious bread and salted butter, coffee and petit fours so you certainly get great value for your money. What was lovely about the establishment was the relaxed ambience amongst the other patrons and staff. No pretentiousness, you definitely felt that people were there to enjoy great food and not there to be seen. The total bill came to €480 which included 2 bottles of sparkling water and 2 delicious glasses if German Sekt. Would definitely return if ever I find myself in Cologne again in the future.

Nice Terrace. Three of us came in late without a reservation but they took our drinks order promptly. After quite a long time also our diner order. Dinner took a long time to come. Food was average. Atmosphere was good except for a very loud baritone Gentlemantalking at another table.

La Fornace - Ristorante und Pizzeria Italienische, mediterrane Küche und Flair in Bergisch Gladbach Odenthal Voiswinkel, zwischen Köln und Leverkusen.
It has been a very long while since we last visited La Fornace and I was really looking forward to re-discovering this Italian restaurant. Our party of 7 spanning three generations booked a table outside in the shade on a balmy Friday evening recently. The first thing I noticed was that all the personnel had changed. Service was OK and we were regularly topped up with drinks (Kölsch) as at least four of us were quite thirsty that night.
To get things going in the right spirit I order an Aperol Royal Prosecco which I have been drinking a lot of recently. Here it came in a tiny glass - for over 4,00 Euro. I was disappointed. As a starter I liked the sound of baby calarmares with salad. I was dismayed, however to discover that it was a huge plate - certainly enough for a main course & in fact one of our party did, indeed order it as his main course. I followed this with a pizza diavolo which was also huge - I simply couldn't finish it. I suppose having too much is better than not having enough but I just felt overwhelmed...
The others in our party were satisfied enough. They had a range of dishes all of which were well cooked.
Somehow I left with mixed feelings. The place had somehow changed for an atmospheric point of view. One of the waitresses who could hardly speak German let alone English which somehow seemed to sum it up for me - there was the missing homely, friendly feel about the whole place which I remember from the past. Sorry, but for me I classify it now as "average" even though my 13 year old son thought it was "excellent" because he liked his pizza margarita :-)

The food was surprisingly good and the waiter was very nice. His English was very good and he made us feel welcome. It's only a short walk down the hill from the Schloss Bensberg where we stayed.
