A very busy restaurant for the locals-even parking was in great demand. A Japanese layout with long queue of patrons. Food was great but not expensive. There was also some local crafts for sale (our friend's wife nearly wiped our their stock!). Service was quick and friendly which is normal. No need to worry about language as English menu was available but booking strongly recommended.

This was recommended by our accomodation's host. It was a short walk away and hence we decided to have our late lunch here, after spending a few hours travelling from Kumamoto to Beppu.
The sushi were generally nice and we loved the unagi sushi the most. The unagi melted in our mouths!! There was free flow of miso soup too.

Found this on Tripadvisor for the restaurant near our hotel. It located just opposite of the train station. It seems to be quite famous. It was a weekday dinner so without waiting we got our seat. Tempura is the one that i saw recommended. We had the signature tempura chicken and I had my set meal with fish. The tempura chicken tasted good, the batter is different from what i had in Fukuoka. My set meal are good too except they forgot my main dish - the fish. Until I finished everything and checked, they only realized the fish had not yet swim to me.

Cosy and comfortable. Good food and drinks. Great service. Too bad I don't know more Japanese. Sort of followed an elderly gentleman sitting beside who seems to know his food and enjoys specialty food. Hope to return again some day.

This place has been passed down in the family and has been around for decades. It is hidden down a tiny alley off the main road and seats only 6-8 people at a time. The menu: gyoza (dumplings), tea, and beer. This is a great place to go for a late-night snack!

Found this after navigating the neighbourhood. Great food at decent prices. They don't speak English and there was no English menu. Struggled to order, then found that the part-time staff there is a Japanese speaking lady from China whom we can converse with easily. Pay with cash only.
Food was excellent, the best we had in Beppu. We were fortunate to go there early. When we left, there was a queue waiting to enter for lunch. Limited Seating

Everything is good but their best is makizushi. My personal favorites are jumbo inari and chirashizushi. You should try the chicken and korokke to complement your sushi!

Eitaro was one of the three restaurants in Seikai located on 2/F Umi building
We stayed in Seikai which kaiseki dinner and breakfast were part of our meal plans.
All dishes were so delicious and well-presented that we took at least two hours to complete our dinner. Hence, we missed the live band performance on 1/F.
Breakfast needed to be lauded: grilled fish on hot stones, seafood soup with whelk, clams and prawns heated on table, fresh salad and warm tofu, refill of juice and fresh fruit served on crushed ice.
It was specialized in serving fresh seafood and got a lobster tank. I also read the lunch set menu and the price was reasonable.
Two types of Seating – tables and tatami booths
Make booking ahead of time for this wonderful restaurant to avoid disappointment, as it would be full house for dinner even on weekdays.

Soup is thick and tasty, with thin slices of meat and egg. Went there during weekday evening around 6 pm, only 2-3 customers. Kids utensils and seats available. English menus available upon request, and the restaurant offers free flow of iced green tea.
The soup does not taste good with additional noodle ( 100 yen ). Do not recommend top up with noodle.
