A great find in Barbastro thanks to a local recommendation. We were lucky to get a table - it filled up very quickly and it's easy to see why. Interesting local menu, really fresh and tasty food - overall this is one of the best meals we've had during this trip to Spain.

Barbastro is a small city in the Somontano (a wine region in northern Spain). There are many restaurants, but El Portillo is probably one of the best there. There is a menu for 20€,you can eat 3 dishes plus starters and Deserts and Somontano's wine included. With a high quality food. It is really recommendable. If you go by the region, this restaurant is a must Stop!!

We loved so much that we came back 4 times during our 3 weeks holidays!
We loved all the formulas we tried: a la carte classic first and main course, tapas style para Picar, and the menu at 14,5eur everything included.
We have 2 small children (1 and 3,5 years) and we felt really comfortable thanks to the great service.
I almost forget to mention the nice trendy decoration and the great local wines!

Amazing restaurant which is located under a family gourmet food store with more that 50 years owned by Mur family and run by two generations.
Excellent treat which makes you feel better than at home.
My suggestion is to start the food tour looking at the products sold in the store, specially cheeses, foies, Vegetables, legumes, chocolates and great selection of local olive oils and "Somontano wines".
In the restaurant you will travel 2 centuries back, because it is located in an old warehouse lighted with a nice chimney, and many candels, and all walls are full of different bottles.
Great salads made with local vegetables, cheese, cod, fruits, tuna,.....followed by incredible selection of local and international cheeses, or a selection of foies, mushrooms (in season), delicious Iberic ham, and followed by a nice T-Bone steak, or nice filet. Do not miss the coffees, it comes with an incredible selection of local chocolates. For wine ask for help, They know all the Somontano wines and cellars personally.
My suggestion : After a good meal there, ask them to recommend you a local cellar to visit it, and They will help you as They know the owners personally.

After having tried several restaurants in Barbastro, we have gone back to El Placér several time. Almost every time we visit we go there. The food is simply great. Choose something from the area. Meaning the meat will be better than the fish, especially the lamb is good from the part of Spain.
Price is pretty standard for the region. With wine, dessert and coffe €30-€40 per person.
The decorations are nice and the service efficient.
The place can be a bit hard to find and there is not much of a view and no out door serving.

As we both had no great hunger we decided to order three different starters all with seafood, costing nearly 20 Euros each, and share them. The waiter was unable to express himself in French, English or German. All 3 starters were seriously over-salted. A great pity, as the general ambience is particularly attractive. One consolation: the very reasonably-priced bottle of Priorat red wine , which was excellent.
Cook & waiter need some basic training here! Price-quality relationship leaves a lot to desire!

El menú era variado y resultó buenísimo. Además el trato del personal fue muy profesional y amable. Cuando vuelva a Barbastro, que he de volver, ahí iré a comer.

We had the menu del did. I had the pasta to start, which was a huge bowl, which I couldn't finish. Then had the chicken Limon, which was just a piece of chicken, no vegetables, but I think thats just how they do it. Dessert was good too. Menu included a bottle of wine, water & bread, which arrived hot in the breadbasket. Service was good, and one waiter spoke some English which helped with ordering. Nice place for a filling, quick, cheap lunch. And the air conditioning was a lovely bonus. We would eat here again.

Studied all reviews for restaurants in Barbastro and decided, it being a lovely day, to walk to the Top 11 to check out the menus ... en route we saw this new and unreviewed restaurant. The menu looked good and appealed to both a huge meat eater and one who prefers lighter fare. Started with a few tapas which were delicious and original then huevo rotos with jamón (fried eggs with yolks that break and run over Chips) which were delicious with hot and crispy fries followed by a chuleton (t-bone steak). Meanwhile lighter eater had a fresh salad with sweetbreads and cured duck with smashed fresh raspberries which was a delight. Super service and packed out which we saw as great sign for new restaurant. Price really good too. Worth a tiny walk over river. A delightful find which clearly has already found a clientele in Barbastro ... looked like the locals go.
