This is the second of three nights of wonderful dinners. Last night it was in Cochem, tonight and tomorrow it is here in Bacharach.
My wife and I were staying at the hotel Bacharcher and our friends wanted to try out the restaurant based on TripAdvisor reviews and we were not disappointed with our decision. We sat down and noticed that their were two tables filled with women laughing and have what seemed the time of their lives. It made for a fun atmosphere for us.
Again it is hard to say much about the meals except they were exceptional, again everyone raved about their meals. (we were the lucky ones to stay there so we enjoyed the breakfasts as well).
Again, we let the server pick our wines and we were very happy with the results.
Order anything and I dare you not to enjoy it.

We happened on this interior beer garden not knowing it was the site of the original 11th century post office! Wonderful selection of beer and very knowledgeable wait staff recommended a nice selection of local white wine. She asked many questions to determine which Rieslings I might like, and she was right! Nice authentic German menu, but we did not try the food.

Recommended by Rick Steves, lots of reviews on the web.
The courtyard of their restaurant (Zum grünen Baum) is really nice to sit down, sample some of their wines and eat typical German food. My Flammkuchen with salmon was very nice. The waitress was extremely friendly and even offered a mini wine tasting.

Regional, vegetarian- and seasonal specialities with Rhine river view
At the beginning of my most recent trip abroad I landed in Frankfurt on 8 October and from the airport took a train to Bacharach, where I'd stay for two nights. I did not stay at the Hotel Kranenturm, but I chose VERY well in making the restaurant my first stop for a meal.
I was jet-lagged, needed a meal before sleeping and arrived at the restaurant unfashionably early - in fact I was the first customer, but that worked to my advantage as I had a chance to chat with my charming hostess Fatima and with my excellent waitress, whose name I'm sad to say I've forgotten. I suppose it's a tad too obvious to choose a quintessential German dish for one's first meal there (on this trip, I'd been to Germany before, in fact was stationed there in 1967-68). But the sauerbraten at this restaurant had been highly recommended in more than one guidebook.
Right they were, and right happy was I with the choice! I'll let an attached photo do some of the explaining, but this was heaven on a plate - the meat was tender, the sauce absolutely incredible, and the cabbage and potatoes were perfect accompaniments.
When I was young I used to drink German wine, but haven't in years. Of course the Rhine is wine central, and Bacharach prides itself on its wines, even over the rest in the area. I can't argue. I let my hostess choose the wine, and she offered a delicious local red that washed down the food wondrous fair. I'm ashamed to say I don't remember the name, but I think it comes from a local vintner named Jost.
In addition to very friendly and attentive service and from my above paragraph obviously GREAT food, the restaurant is charmingly set in the old town walls - if the evening had been a bit warmer and less damp I could have sat outside on their porch that overlooks the city park and beyond that, the River Rhine. As it was I had a lovely spot in a lovely dining room, and could see the river from my seat.
I understand there are other fine restaurants in Bacharach, but I could not have done better than the Restaurant Kranenturm! I urge anyone who finds her or himself in that area to run, not walk to this excellent restaurant.
a quick ps - they were also offering local fresh fish, which I really hungered for as well - I chose the sauerbraten for perhaps tacky-tourist reasons, but Fatima had a joke on me about it - as she wisely noted "The fish is German too!" And of course she was correct - still I was more than content with my choice!

First and foremost I will say the food here is phenomenal. Would be wonderful for a date night. However, we went with two young children and got the impression it was kid friendly based on a children's menu, high chairs, and welcoming attitude of the staff. It took a very long time for anyone to take our order (maybe 30 minutes), when we finally ordered the server kindly asked if we wanted the children's food right away (kinder schnitzel and fries). We said yes, please. About 45 minutes later, our salads arrived, followed about 10 minutes later by my daughter's meal, then 10 minutes after that our meals. By this time we ate like barbarians, was a big embarrassing and a disservice to the food quality but the kiddos were antsy. Our experience in Germany has been that an hour is typical for a one course meal with a salad, so we weren't expecting over two hours. Again, food is amazing, just choose wisely based on your group composition.

This cute little gem of an eatery and wine outlet is on the main drag in Bacharach, but if you are not paying attention, you might miss it. The outside Terrace is tucked into an alley and is usually busy. You can order regular meals as well as snack food while you sample some really good wine. Our server was a very sweet lady who have us excellent service. You can purchase bottles of wine once you have sampled enough. Sampling is done in sets of six. You can choose different wine themes to sample such as sweets, drys, reds etc.. They also serve a very special treat- Riesling soup! Don't miss out on that in wine country!

We really enjoyed our meal here--it is a fun atmosphere and they have a lot of toys in the yard for kids. We were the first to arrive so got our order in fast (thank goodness, because as another reviewer pointed out), some other tables left as the service can be really slow. The beer was very good and our food was typical German fare. The salads and currywurst were very good though the flammkuchen was not the best I've had. Also the prices were reasonable while others in the town were obviously set high for tourists.

Visited Bacharach for a family birthday and went here 2 nights. Karsten, Heike and their 2 sons Nico and Renee were wonderful hosts. Really nice atmosphere, local wines sold here, friendly locals, English spoken so no worries about language barriers. Beautiful old building reputed to be 13th century. Former local mint.

Our friends were staying there so we decided to sit outside in the sun and enjoy a flammkuchen and beer. The gentleman who owned the hotel took great care of us. The beer was good and cold, the flammkuchen was very typical and good. I walked by the desert cabinet and was hooked, they have wonderful Deserts and I was lucky to be able to stop at only one chocolate pie/cake type dish.
Our friends who stayed there said their rooms were very nice and the breakfast was fine.
