I stayed for 8 nights over a 3 week period with work, and was pleasantly surprised by the hotel.
A typical old Scottish country house hotel, walk on the front door at there's an old leather Chesterfield sofa in the hallway with the bar off to one side and the restuarant on the other with main staircase to the rooms.
A small hotel, but each room is well presented and clean. Bathrooms are immaculate clean. Beds are comfortable.
Breakfast is cooked to order so always fresh with a selection of cereals and fruit to support cooked breakfast. Poached eggs cooked to perfection every time.
The hotel is owned by an Irish gentleman who serves breakfast with a smile. I think his son is evening barman/waiter who is also as friendly as the owner. Nice touch that his pet bulldog sometimes sleeps on first landing but not an effective guard dog!!!
The evening meal menu is very nice with the usual favourites like steak pie but also each evening specials are on. All food is well presented and extremely warming. (You have to try the Cullen Skunk soup as a starter.)
Ecchlefechan is a small village with a few shops, the hotel being on the edge of the village.
If you are in the area or just passing through you have to stay at least one night in the Cressfield.

This is with out the best Indian in the area. The staff are friendly the food is Bob-on the cost of your meal is good value. The only room for improvement is the wine we asked for was a red merlot. But the only red they had was a very poor quality red. This needs to be changed. I will keep you up to date if there is an improvement with regards the wine only.as I first stated the food is the best.

Occupying the building on the site where Robert Burns wrote the 'diels awa' wi the exciseman', The Cafe Royal Annan was opened in 1967. We provide high quality food, from a Full Scottish Breakfast to Fish and Chips, Baked Potatoes, Salad and Filled Rolls. Open 7 days a week from 7am to 8pm. We have an outdoor eating area as well as a smoking shelter for our smoking customers.
Arrived for a rather late lunch and found Mr Consistency and the team in fine form. Friendly greeting from the boss and our family fed and watered with zero fuss. It may have been mid-afternoon after a rather busy service but our food was freshly cooked to order, the coffees were piping hot and the staff highly attentive. Heading North on the M74, we had diverted at Gretna and as usual it was well worth the detour to Annan. Tried the home made steak pie and it was superb - produced on-site and not bought in from some distant factory. Another positive feature of The Café Royal is their approach to 'portion control' and 'quality control' - We have never left disappointed at the size of portions, the quality/freshness of the food or what we call good old-fashioned 'Value for Money'. Oh and yet again the loo was spotless - which proves that Mr Consistency has the venue well managed and clearly knows what type of customers he wishes to attract and retain.

This was our second visit here, and I must admit it was better than last time. The staff were very pleasant and friendly and very attentive. The food was excellent and well presented and freshly cooked, no reheating. I had the cold meat platter and I had three enormous slices of ham, beef and Turkey and a lovely fresh salad and really good chips. I could not eat another thing. My wife had the three sausage selection with haggis mash and onion gravy. She said it was really lovely and the sausages wer delicious. Our friends also enjoyed their meals. The lunch time menu one of our friends had was only £6.95, that consisted of a main a dessert and tea or coffee. What an amazing price. Would we recommend this place, of course we would if in Annan then visit here for lunch.

Sunday lunch for us today, the food was lovely, meat was cooked to perfection and the accompanying veg, yorkshires and potatoes were good. Service was excellent, made to feel very welcome and checked we were happy with everything. Desserts were excellent and left feeling very contented and glad we went.

Small village inn set beside the River Annan, providing bar meals daily, holding Thursday coffee morning and serving traditional Sunday lunches, used by locals and tourists, including fishermen and walkers.
Booking recommended. Best Sunday Lunch in the area. We live locally and visit fairly regularly. Good choice of starters and desserts. Scrumptious roast beef dinner with all the trimmings. All home cooking. Mary is a treasure and makes the most delicious desserts. Anne & John...MoreThank you very much for your kind words. We appreciate your taking time to write this review. Anne

Have been here several times, food is always great and prices are good. Waitress always friendly and chatty. Yesterday we had breakfast there but they do lunches too, have had the steak pie before and it is delicious.
