Eskrigg Nature Reserve

Reviewed By SmithRidge - Southend-on-Sea, United Kingdom

We visited here on a warm summers day and it was beautiful. The sights and sounds just carried us away to a really lovely place. You will need a lot of time to 'stroll around' here but it is very worth it if you love nature.
We went into the information centre at the memorial ground as well, beautiful pictures and lots of information about the reserve, wildlife and Lockerbie itself, it has a lot of great history there.
The lady that worked there was a wealth of information and told us stories of the little gem things only locals can tell you. She even flagged down the bus for us and told the driver were we needed to get off ☺☺☺
Thank you very much for making our visit so very enjoyable.
Great work everyone involved in all the hard work to keep a beautiful place like this alive for future generations xx

Dryfesdale Lodge Visitor Centre

The visitors' lodge is at the entrance to the cemetery where there is a memorial to those killed in the 1988 Lockerbie air disaster. The small visitors' centre rebalances the view of Lockerbie by telling its history from Roman times. Opposite is Eskrigg Nature Reserve which is well worth a visit. So, three interesting things to see all on the same site. Go!

Mossburn Community Farm

Mossburn is a small local centre which makes up in enthusiasm what it lacks in size. It is run by young local people under the leadership of Jaunita Wilslon. We were there last Sunday when a boot sale and Easter Egg Hunt were in progress.About thirty youngsters took part in poor conditions. Over £400.00 was banked plus a £100.00 individual donation. You need wellies and you will get up close and persoal with a variety of small lively animals. Most animals are rescued. Some are handed in due to changed circumstances. Not all animals are small. There are horses, pigs ponies, goats and what is claimed to be Scotlands largest bullock. No kidding!. Two male goats are looking for a home. Some former owners keep in touch and some donate. Light refreshments maybe available, enquire. There is also a memorial garden dedicated to animals that have died,
