Monolithic gates still protect Amersfoort, a well-preserved medieval city that remains connected to its history. Built into the foundations of 13th-century defensive walls, the Muurhuizen wall houses are one of the city’s most intriguing features. Art enthusiasts should visit the Mondriaan House (birthplace of abstract artist Piet Mondriaan) and the Armando Museum, a collection of works by the famed Dutch painter.

Encouraged by the T/A reviews we booked for a Saturday night dinner, and were totally delighted on every level. The venue is charming and the décor tasteful but not overly formal so males for a relaxed evening. The service faultless from the Owner / host to the waitresses all attend you to make it a perfect experience.
Menu choices range from a la carte to a series of set tasting menus with 4 - 8 courses and choices by the chef. We wanted to let the chef surprise us and selected a 4 course menu at 42.50 pp and were totally delighted. From the amuse bouche through every course the dishes reflected Michelin quality skill, flair, innovation, and presentation. Tastes, textures and presentation delight both the eye and the palate.
The wine list is varied with selections from France, Spain, Portugal, Italy, Germany, South Africa & New Zealand - priced reasonably for such a high calibre restaurant. We also elected to have the host do the wine paring and her choices were excellent. A first class meal and the best we've had in the Netherlands so far. Could not recommend it highly enough.

We went here as part of a large group and were pleasantly surprised by Merlot.
The service was outstanding form the moment we walked in. Genuinely friendly and very smiley staff that had drinks in our hands within minutes.
We had ordered a fixed menu & that worked well, as we were all exposed to dishes we probably wouldn't have ordered but were so happy to eat.
Even the bread and whipped butter, served on an Amersfoort stone was delicious.
All of the dishes were beautifully presented, with really delicious tastes and textures.
The staff were very careful to look after 2 of our colleagues that prefer gluten-free and checked carefully about preferences before serving the dishes.
I enjoyed every dish, as well as the continuously attentive and friendly service.
A real gem and I will be returning to Merlot, with my wife, just to show it off!

This my second visit. I had another really great meal with friendly staff and good service. Food quality is very high but the prices are very reasonable for the types of good dishes offered. They offer a very interesting tasting menu of 3 staters, 3 mains and 3 dessert proportioned dishes for only 26euros. Tonight I picked some lighter dishes. On my previous visit I had the best mussels that I ever had but sadly these are only available during the right local season. They take their seasonal items seriously. The restaurant features some seasonal dishes are very interesting. I had some tasty Netherlands beers and Belgian beers during my visit. There are lots of wine choices. The atmosphere is nice inside and cozy during the cooler months. There are lots of tables outside that will be busy in he summer.

We had an excellent 7-course dinner at De Saffraan. The food is great and all kinds of tastes will pass by. The service is excellent, really, my compliments to the staff.
Matching wines on top of your dinner is to be advised.
Atmosphere is nice, on an old sailing boat in the Eem-harbour.

We had a lovely lunch - one beer, carafe of cold water, Baba Ganoush Sandwich with marinated cucumber slices, lamb burger with sweet potato fries and housemade mayo- sitting on the restaurant Terrace on the banks of the main canal under the shade of large umbrellas. No English menus available, but our friendly server was happy to translate everything without a problem. Beautiful lunch for $20USD.

Excellent Restaurant
This is an experience never to forget, this food is so awfully delicious! You can see, taste, and feel that each dish consists of different sub dishes. Each little part prepared separately with love and then combined to new sensation. Wish I were rich, I'd go here every month...

Located in the scenic Krommestraat, Coffee Corazon is popular with locals and tourists alike. It has a good range of soups, salads and sandwiches as well as cakes, homemade lemonade and good coffee. Order took a while but was worth the wait and service was good. The staff is cheerful.

Home-made fries! Pealed and pre-baked in the shop. Large cones home-made fries and a huge choice of sauces. We are also very proud of our Amersfoortse kroket. The favorite snack of the Dutch!
Voted best fries in the Netherlands a few years ago, they have been able to keep the quality high.
They cut the fries themselves and fry them at least twice, making sure they are nice and crispy on the outside and warm and soft on the inside.
They have a large selection of wonderful sauces, I recommend their home-made peanut sauce (in combo with the belgian mayonaise).
The service is always excellent, even if there are 10 people waiting.
Waiting time is never very long.
And in the summer you must try their home-made ice cream as well: delicious!
