A traditional country inn, with real fires, dog friendly area, beautiful scenic views, traditional home cooked fresh food, lots of parking and real ales
Good traditional hearty food with no frills. The menu is fairly simple english food - nothing daring or unique. Great range of drinks.
We went on a Saturday Evening - most of the tables taken. From ordering, the food arrived approx 30 mins later - possibly longer so be prepared to wait. This is our second visit and would certainly go again.

Some five thousand years ago, the sages of India discovered the medicinal properties of various roots, bark, leaves, seeds and flowers. They were the first to formalize and systemize the effects and usage of these ingredients. Natural human reluctance to accept these dictates forced the sages to incorporate these instructions into the Holy Indian Scriptures, the Vedas. Once these instructions were given a religious bias they were more readily accepted into the Indian way of life. Situated in an imposing building, the Vedas presents its guests with exemplary service and imaginative contemporary cooking. Seating up to 130 guests, it offers an environment of spaciousness and intimacy in a stylish atmosphere. Offering Urban Indian Cuisine with distinctive Modern English and European flair, complemented by the finest wines, the menu is designed to appeal to even the most ardent of connoisseurs. The lounge is an informal, yet classy environment, which can be used before or after the fine dining. Designed to appeal to those who wish to relax in style, it comprises leather armchairs, low tables and an extensive array of wines, beers and spirits. We hope that you enjoy your visit to the Vedas, and hope to be of service to you once again in the near future. The Vedas is available for private parties and functions, so please discuss any requirements with us. As valued patrons please do not hesitate to contact us with any suggestions, ideas for improvements or comments that you may wish to make.
We had 4 poppadoms, pickles, side orders of Saag Aloo, Daal, with main orders of Lamb Sambar and Prawn Bhuna, rice and chapatis. The popadoms were lovely, large and crispy. The pickles were good. Both side orders were perfect, very good Saag Aloo and the Daal was just right. Unfortunately the same cannot be said of the two main courses. The lamb Sambar was in a gloopy nondescript sauce, with just lumps of lamb in it. The prawn Bhuna had lots of prawns but again a gloopy and nondescript sauce. It felt like it was from a standard packet of stock with the odd bit added. Not worth eating.

We visited today SUNDAY 10th December.
The weather was against us but we came from different directions.
The Christmas menu was available, not extensive but adequate.
Well really all dishes sounded amazing.
There were 7 family members, we had either Beef or Turkey.
Too many wonderful vegetables to mention.
It was delicious. We all managed to eat a sweet, really don't know how, but we did.
The atmosphere in The Staff of Life is really comfortable and warm, so very friendly.
We all travelled over 40 miles but it was worth it.
Wonderful food, drink and atmosphere.
We will be returning, it might have to be next year.
Thank you to everyone, you are the best.

Based on the corner of Water St and Dale St, the 3 Wise Monkeys is a unique, community focused bar that prides itself on its intimate and friendly atmosphere. Featuring live music every weekend from both local and international musicians, we also encourage artists to perform at our sunday open mic sessions or make use of our wall space to display their artwork. Upstairs, Darakorn Thai restaurant provides the very best in authentic, funky cuisine from all regions of Thailand. Why not enjoy some tapas while enjoying company in the bar, or book a table of up to 20 for those special evenings? If we haven't had the pleasure of your company yet, we hope to see you soon! A great time for the whole family is guaranteed.
I was invited here by friends.
It is known and called 3 Wise Monkeys.
Quirky shabby/chic place, which reminds of places in Lane Lane - Liverpool and Northern Qtr in Manchester.
Decent feel about the place and the food, Thai / Far Eastern was real good.
Great selection of beers and ales, as well a gin range to be proud off.

This is not an ordinary chip shop. There is a lovely resturant or an old bus to dine in. In summer eat outside or by the canal.Childrens menu and wide range of meat pies and puddings available. The vanilla slices are great as wellaethe fruit pies All home made. All avilable with tea/coffee, bread and butter. Just go in the chp shop, order and the meal is brought to you at your table. The service is excellent. It is an experience to dine in the bus usually accompanied by 60s/70s music in the backgrund. The bus can be hired for private parties. The shop is open Mon. and Tues till 3.30pm and Wed.Thurs.and Fri. till 8pm. Not open Sat and Sun. It really is an experience (very good one), and well worth a visit. The place is spotless. We have been going many years now and there .are many regulars. I would recommend the chippy for a very enjoyable experience.
They do the most amazing fish, chips, homemade pies. The size of the individual cakes are enough for 2 to share. Best chippy around. Won loads of awards. You must try don't just take my word for it! Amazing

Very good quality food. The broccoli soup and the Indian mixed starters were fine. Fish pie was very good as was the Cumberland sausage (was a bit well done) and chips. I can recommend the peppercorn sauce.
Only comment I would make is that the waitress does check if the food is OK but when I asked if I could order a coffee was told that they don't take orders for coffees and you have to go to the bar.

2nd visit here. First visit was along time ago but so many people we speak to always mention this place so after Reading reviews, made a booking, because it is a popular place. The chicken and prawns in garlic sauce was delicious and so plentiful. Double cumberland sausage and the fillet steak were equally well received. Portions are huge served on oval sized Sandwich plates. The meringues were scrumptious too. Nice to eat homemade cooking in a typical traditional pub. Not many of them left! Give it a go. I don't think it will disappoint.

An independent and friendly coffee house and vegetarian licenced restaurant with single estate coffee, speciality teas, craft beer and soft drinks, ethical wines and a fresh juice bar. Gluten free, dairy free and vegan are all catered for too. Popular with locals and visitors alike and dog friendly.
Visited with grandparents, two kids and me and wife and dog.
The coffee was excellent as were the cakes, nachos, teas, etc.
All prepared a little different and the way hot drinks should be presented.
Dog was welcomed.
Waitresses were lovely and very good at their job.
Highly recommended.

We have travelled widely throughout Spain and the Balearics to bring you the very best of Spanish food and drink in authentic surroundings. The ambience, like the food, is a combination of traditional Spanish rustic and modern mediterranean. Redolent of flamenco and the corrida, the sights and sounds of Spain abound as do the flavours and aromas - olive oil, garlic, wood-smoked paprika... The ingredients are carefully sourced and the food prepared and cooked on the premises with a liberal helping of pasion. Whether dropping in for a relaxing drink, having a good night out or hosting a party, you are guaranteed the true taste of Spain. We have a large upstairs room which is perfect for larger parties and a Terrace at the front where you can enjoy a cold Spanish beer in the Sunshine.
We've visited this quirky little gem several times both with friends and family and on all occasions been very satisfied with food and service. Sometimes there can be a longer wait for dishes to be brought to the table but this is because dishes are...MoreMany thanks for your lovely review Sarah and for being adventurous! See you soon.
