Meadows, lochs, moorlands, castles—the Isle of Harris packs all of the Scottish signatures into one punch. The east side of Harris boasts some of the oldest known rocks in the world, dating back millions of years. On the west side, white sand beaches are caressed by gray-green waters that are perfect for surfing. Cruise over to the volcanic islands of St. Kilda and explore the ruins of a medieval village. The Harris Outdoor Adventure Centre offers kayaking, sailing, windkarting and mountain biking excursions to suit all levels of experience.

You must, must, must stop at Luskentyre when traveling on the west coast of Harris. The beach is breathtaking and I would consider one of the top Beaches I've ever visited. Now with that said I wouldn't call this a typical beach, i.e. bathing suites and beach towels, instead we went in late October and it was cold/windy, not ideal for swimming. This could be different during the summer months.
Despite it being cold the beach was simply amazing with great views. We spent a few hours here and I would have stayed the whole day if we had the time.

Golden sands beautiful crystal clear waters and often the whole beach to yourself what more could you possibly ask for? Probably more sunny days would be nice but the the clouds can add to the dramatic and atmospheric photos obtainable at this beach. Stunning beach and one of the must do things on Harris and right beside the other great beach Luskentyre beach so spoiled for choice here. Don't forget your camera! Definitely highly recommended.

Has to be one of the best Beaches in Harris and that is saying something. Amazing drive that winds and takes a while but worth it for the views and honesty shop enroute in the Castle stables with fantastic local venison. Great for wildlife spotting on the very edge of Harris.

This is a beautiful and important historical attraction on the Isle of Harris. I strongly recommend a visit. parking is on the side of the road, but access is easy, and there are informative interpretation plaques inside the church. The graveyard is beautiful. The church and graveyard contain graves and tombs of leading figures in the history of the Isle of Harris. Entrance is free.

The Isle of Harris Distillery is The Social Distillery, offering a warm welcome to all in the heart of Harris. We are open six days a week with regular tours, a public canteen offering fresh local produce and a shop full of local products as well as our own Isle of Harris Gin.
Even though we are not regular whisky drinkers, we really enjoyed the tour. The lady who led it was really enthusiastic and engaging and happily answered all our questions. The whisky will not be ready for at least another three years but we did have the opportunity to sample a similar whisky and their gin, which was fantastic.
The building, both inside and out, is very attractive - I loved the way wood had been used in the various rooms.
After the tour, we had a very tasty lunch in the canteen. There is a small menu but the soups were very tasty and satisfying, as were the home baked cakes.
We bought gin to take home - we have bought many different gins over the past few years - but this is one of our very favourites.

Off the beaten track but well worth a visit. Beautiful building with car parking space opposite. A small but high quality range of art on offer including some stunning ceramic/glass pieces and black and white photography. As always with this type of art, not for everyone I guess but well worth a visit. Owners are very friendly and welcoming

Gallery in beautiful garden setting, in secluded bay, along a tree lined road i Drinishader on the Golden road, Isle of Harris
What you see in the Gallery is mirrored in the surrounding area. Willie and Moira Fulton have captured Hebridean colour and light in all it's glory.

Margarita Williams was an excellent guide of her gallery which features both her own work and that of friends and relatives trained at both the Glasgow and Edinburgh Schools of art. Like many travellers to a new place I like to check out the local galleries and choose a piece that is evocative of the area. Unfortunately it's often difficult to find genuine quality landscape art as many amateurs are drawn to the most scenic of areas to do a bit of sketching and the odd watercolour... Margerita and the artists she features are definitely the real deal though, with some fine oils, watercolours, pen wash and wood block prints to chose from for a range of budgets. I ended up buying a very simple oil study by Marigold Newman which really captures the light effects on the sea here - I'll try to upload a photo but probably won't do it justice. Worth the effort to follow the beautiful winding coastal road to find this place.
