We went to this ALPHS mountain on July 2017.we went with four families .From the starting point(cable car)I was so excited.we went in three cable cars each having a station to stop .as I was going up and up I could see slowly slowly ice layers and mountain covered with thick snow .As we reached there I did some ice sports and then later went on the glacier ride with th guide .guide was informative showing al the paths inside the glacier .The temperature was 4 degrees and as we were going in it became more and more colder .we went on a boat on ice water also. Then whole glacier rider adventure was fun trampling ice water and slipping .CHEERS TO SUCH AN AMAZING AUSTRIAN ALPHS MOUNTAIN

We went out of our way on our drive from Vienna to South Tyrol to go on a little hike here a few weeks ago, and it was splendid.
Keep in mind that there's a 12€ toll fee for the last few kilometers of road to reach the artificial lake - we saw people park for free further down who were going to walk it up, but the road is narrow and there's no sidewalk, so I would no recommend that. I think there's a bus that'll take you up though. Since we were on a tight schedule we didn't want to have to worry about connections and parked our car right at the top. The drive up is an experience in and of itself, as you get to drive through tunnels chiseled into bare rock.
We visited on the last Saturday of July and weren't there until late morning, so finding a parking spot was a bit tricky, but spots kept opening up. The view is excellent, and I highly recommend the hike up to the Olpererhütte, which takes about two hours - the views from the top and during most of the hike are simply incredible, especially on a clear day. The water is a stunning color, and you'll still see the Mountains on the far side dusted with snow. It was a highlight of our summer!

Visited here in July. Paid €21 plus an extra €5 for a photo pass. Can't remember what that money went towards, maybe maintaining the caves... You could say you don't want to take any... Once down there they certainly don't check who paid and who didn't...but if the money really is for a good cause then I guess that would be a bit mean... The scariest part of this tour by far, was the walk down to the entrance. I was only wearing trainers and ended up sitting on my butt and sliding down on the snow because I'd been so slow and felt under pressure to keep up with those that got down quicker... Was a bit worried I would keep sliding right off the mountain so maybe not ideal....after that there was lots of walking up and down ladders... Thought that would be harder than it was, they don't move at all and felt safe. I didn't slip inside at all but my feet did get a bit wet. Was a bit disappointed that the group got very split up because of everyone stopping for photos, you couldn't really overtake so had to wait and we missed out on hearing any talk by the guide. I didn't feel claustrophobic, maybe a little breathless because of the thin air. The boat part was a rip off, like others have said you cram into a boat, go a little way, then come back, but hey ho, it's good to say you've been on a boat under a glacier!
The walk up the hill afterwards was hard but I used others footprints to get a hold..
It IS worth a visit if you think you can manage that snowy slope and you are OK on ladders....

From the bottom use 3 cable carsm, they call the Ski Bus. Very comfortable even in case of sting wind we experienced. It was -24 degrees on the top and 60-80km wind. Fog and no Panorama view at all. But worth of visit as atmosphere is just glorious.

This is a bit more than just a touristic tour. A guide will take you into a real cave, that has not really been modified by man (except for a very few security arrangements). You will need good walking boots (no ski booths and you'll get shoes from the guide if needed) and you will also get a coat (otherwise you'll destroy your clothes on the rocks), helmet, and a headlight. Leave bags, backpacks, and jacket at the guide's office as the cave is quite warm (2°C) and passages are tight. The tour is not for extra-large people as you will need to duck or climb through passages (I'm 170cm/68 Kg and could not go through all passages). Apart from the mild physical challenge the tour is rewarding, especially if you have interest in geology, as this area is quite unique. You'll need to understand what the guide says, however, and in my case the tour was in German (I guess they would also be able to do it in English). If you are not mother-tongue German, however, the Austrian accent might be challenging :)
The basic path is the same for all, but if you are fit and sufficiently agile, the guide might take you into passages which are a bit more difficult (but also more rewarding). The tour takes 45-60 minutes. Meet the guide at its office at the side of the Spannagelhaus (walk down the ski slope at the top station of the second ropeway and follow the signs for about 5 minutes - it might be a challenging walk if slopes are icy and beware the large snowmobiles!). There are not many people visiting this cave, which might give you the chance to have a private tour (especially if the last one in the afternoon). Price (11 EUR as I was there) and times of tours (3 times a day) are costantly adapted. Check with the tourist office for the most up-to-date information (website is outdated).

The new attraction close to the Hotel Hintertuxerhof. The 3D archery parcours with its 10 target figures waits for all interested archers. Each station has two starting points, one for beginners and one for advaced. The required shots are listed on the scorecard, so that the best archer can be determined.
