The place is quite loud and happening. Its not fancy, but the food was great, service was good and fast. Some of the dishes very iffy (sushi). But the fish from the veteine was great . The variety is quite big and so are the cooking styles.

We ate at Echo on 2nd March in the early evening. After having received a very warm welcome we were surprised at the depth and variety in the menu. As it was a public holiday alcohol wasn’t being served so I tried a non alcoholic beer which to my surprise wasn’t bad at all. The decor is quite contemporary and the table generously large with extremely comfortable chairs. This restaurant is on the Cinnamon Grand premises but situated on the main road is completely separate to the hotel. Our food was excellent and served in the most friendly and efficient way. Our special thanks go to Pradeep and Darshana who were exemplary all evening. This is a very good authentic Italian restaurant and comes highly recommended.

Thai cuisine combines the best of gastronomic exoticism and culinary pleasure and the best place in which to indulge in it is at the Royal Thai. Overlooking a paved Terrace, Royal Thai delights guests with authentic Thai food prepared by Thai master chefs, in a peaceful and serene ambience. The restaurant also has an elegantly furnished private dining room, which could be reserved for private gatherings. Voted Best Thai Restaurant in Colombo, Sri Lanka.

We went there on a Friday without any reservation, but nevertheless the restaurant manager offered us a table at a place of our liking. The buffet had many varieties and all tasted so delicious. The sushi bar and the hoppers sections were my favorite. They had plain hoppers, egg hoppers, milk hoppers, and juggary hoppers. Food was very fresh. Even the salad bar had many add-ons. The chefs did a great job in delivering tasty food. From the start the staff was very attentive and always with a genuine smile. I have to give 100/100 for the service they provide. Very welcoming. Specially I need to mention Nimal (manager), Dilanka (Cap), Anuradha, and Praneeth who served us and looked in to our comfort all the time. Overall we had a wonderful dinner out.

We were visiting friends in Colombo who suggested we dine at Tintagel the restaurant in the Tintagel Hotel housed in the former Prime Minister's house in Colombo. The setting is stunning and the service a definite notch above average for Sri Lanka (which is to say it's average for the more developed parts of the world). The food was well prepared, but the kitchen, as seems to be the rule, even in very high end spots owned and run by Sri Lankans, was painfully slow. Nonetheless, I would recommend this place as one of the best in Colombo I have visited. They, as could virtually every place we dined in Sri Lanka with the exception of a country spot where we had a buffet, need a lot of work on providing efficient and timely service!

On the 19th of October 2017, I purchased a “Coffee” cake from your outlet at Castle Street. This was taken to my office & all the staff members who ate it complained of a moldy, kerosene taste & the peanuts used in it has gone a rancid. Then we realized that the cake was to expire on the next day (20th). I called the outlet & they asked us to bring it over. The sales person in the first place said that he is unable to accept a return since it will be deducted from his salary. Then I requested him to eat it & see. He said that the cake was all right & the “Kerosene” taste was the normal taste of the “Coffee” cake. We requested to speak to a higher authority to make a complaint & we were given the number of one “Pathmanathan” who was supposed to be the production manager. First he asked us to handover the cake to an outlet in Maradana, & when we refused he said that he will send somebody over to collect it from the outlet & to leave the cake with the salesman. He also agreed to test it from their lab & get back to us the next day by 10 am. I never received the promised call the next day & the several calls we took went unanswered as well. On Monday (23rd) he answered the call & said there was nothing wrong with the cake & that our accusations were bogus. To date I have purchased more than 10 cakes from the same outlet. Furthermore, we purchased breakfast for our office trip from the same outlet. The handling of a complaint from a regular client is deplorable & I advise everybody not to patronize this place hereafter.
