A truly beautiful pagoda, with far more worshippers than tourists so it feels like a more genuine place than many other pagodas.
A lift takes you up to the pagoda itself. The stupas and shrines are stunningly beautiful, the gold covering shimmering in the sunlight. The police on duty are friendly and helpful.
There is also a great view of the giant Buddha at the adjacent Sehtatgyi Pagoda.

You get a much better view if you are on the river looking at these hundreds of Budda carvings in the rock cliffs of the Akauk mountain. You also will need a pair of binoculars to see some of them. It is amazing what you can achieve while you waited to pay the river toll years ago. It is a truly great site to see.

Firstly you need to drive through rows of village houses along a narrow track road before reaching the museum gate. The gate is closed but can be enter. Entrance fee for foreigners is 5000Kyat/pax. The building is a simple single-storey structure. The main hall is basic displaying some stone sculptures. There are some exhibits on the both sides of the main hall. I am not sure the display are complete or detailed record collection of all the excavated items. The National Museum in Yangon apparently has more collection items of Pyu Period than here. I felt such world heritage site should be given adequate attention in exhibiting more historical artifact

The Pyu city states are hardly known to outsiders but they should be considered one of the highlights of Myamar due to their antiquity.
Sri Ksetra is probably the easiest of the 3 sites included in the WHS listing to visit and also the most well excavated, just outside Pyay. The site is extensive and is inhabited. There are a significant number of sites to visit. Do stop at the museum first.
The site is a little bit too far to walk (actually, far too big). Unless you have fat tired bicycles, don't even try to ride (roads are loose dirt).

This pagoda may not be all that much to look at in a country with thousands but it is one of the earliest examples still surviving and a very different form (more similar to the ones in Sri Lanka). It is part of the Sri Ksetra World Heritage Site. A must when visiting Pyay and Sri Ksetra.

We took bikes to go there, takes about 1 hr First dense Traffic, later beautiful countryside. The museum is rather small, but well kept. I also recommend taking an ox carriage which will take you for about two hrs around- through remote villages and countryside and the oldest pagodas in Myanmar

Big! The name literally means 10 story Buddha. Just behind the Shwe San Daw Pagoda from which you will get also great views of this big Buddha.
