Special place, fascinating range of books, enticingly displayed...
Best book shop in Spain? I Think so.... You may have to go to find out for yourself, they also have a webpage and even promised to send to Ireland for us!

Plasencia is good but doesnt show Extremadura like Trujillo or Cáceres. interesting town if you go to Extremadura. not necessary but why not) good sea-food paella in the center square! remember that all Castles in this region have break-time and aren't opened 13-17, depends on each one, but around this time.

Prepare to step back in time as you pass through both the old and 'new' Cathedral. The audio guides are excellent and essential for the visit. Unfortunately they don't allow photos to be taken in the Cathedral and are quite vigilant. It's absolutely magnificent, grand, and centuries old. So much history!
An absolute must see in Plasencia

We ventured outside the old walled city and followed the "newish" aquduct down towards the base of a hill with this green free park. it was fairly compact, and not quite a zoo, but had plenty of farmyard type animals for the kiddies, lots of welcome shady cool, in a very hot town. I can see why the locals would welcome their visits to relax here, but honestly, it was fairly mediocre!

Lovely Plaza, a major intersection point for many streets. It also serves as a fruit/veg/produce market, like a farmer's market. It's lined with lovely bars and restaurants too to keep you busy. Definitely worth pottering around and great spot for people watching.

This area was lovely for a shady walk, and the park itself obviously is very attractive to the locals on the weekends, and even early in the morning old men were taking a dip. We had our bathers but weren't tempted, the water LOOKED ok but we were not sure how clean it would really be. Access to and from the old Town is helped by a set of escalators...then we continued our exploring along that far side of the river bank till we found a bridge back over...

This aquaduct is situated outside the old town, but it is walking distance. It is not as large as some of the others in the area, but very pretty.

We came here because it's an easy way to visit the walls of Plasencia. It's free and has the usual Tuesday to Sunday opening hours. You go through a small exhibition area, although most of the information is only in Spanish. You then have the chance to walk on two sections of wall, each at different heights. You get a really good sense of the shape and scale of the walls and towers when you're up here and you can see a long way across the surrounding countryside.
It's well worth going, as Plasencia is a very good walled city, with most of the walls still intact, albeit that some of them are buried behind houses or other buildings. It may not be as famous as its near neighbour Caceres, but we enjoyed it more.
