Things to do in Plasencia

Many people had recommended eating at Los Monjes, so four of us went to have dinner a couple of weeks ago. I think we were unlucky that when we arrived they had a large group celebrating a birthday party (Karaoke included); and the staff didn't have time to look after us properly.
The over-designed place is looking tired, dated, the smell in the dining room was terrible (something to do with the cheese they were serving)
The food was over-killed (more than overpowered) by loads of sauces that didn't need to be there! The meat carpaccio arrived buried in three different coloured spiral sauces and something else I can't remember. I had to rescue a beautiful piece of haddock (merluza) from the same very sweet red sauce (fried tomatoes Solis), the same very bright green sauce and a huge wallop of very sweet balsamic vinegar paste.
In the end, and despite the very extensive menu, all food tasted the same, dishes weren't at all pleasing to the eye, so what's the point?
We all were genuinely very disappointed!

We came here for lunch on our first day in Plasencia. The restaurant is at the back and down the stairs, and they don't seem to serve lunch on the outside Terrace. The service was very friendly and prompt and we enjoyed the ambiance tremendously.
For starters, we had a sort of mashed potato and beef pie and a vegetable stew with garlic and broad beans - both were very tasty and new dishes to us. For mains, we had pork loin steak and a beef stew. The beef was so tender that it just fell apart with the slightest touch. Just great. For desserts, we had a lovely lemon mousse and a dish of milk curd and honey - sounds weird, but very nice. All the food was great and very fresh, and the menu del dia was incredibly good value.
So, certainly worth a visit for some good local food, served in a very nice setting and a classy little restaurant.

All I can say to describe the Parador in Plasencia is, WOW!!!!!!
I have never stayed anywhere as lavish and spectacular.
We upgraded our room from a standard to a superior double. The room was nice but really nothing special. However the hotel made up for the room so we weren't bothered.
Sign up for the Amigos club online and get a discount on parking at the Paradores.
Of all the Paradores we visited in Extremadura, the one at Plasencia was by far the most stunning.

We stayed in Plasencia for two days and had 2 dinners and one breakfast at this small restaurant at the Plaza Mayor. The waiter was very friendly and recommended some great dishes to us. The food was simple but delicious, everything was prepared with fresh ingredients. Their homemade flan was the best we've ever had, in Spain and at home! The menu del dia was just 10 euros (bread and water or wine included).

On a Sunday evening when many restaurants are closed, we found this little gem in a side street between the Parador and Plaza Mayor. We were gently welcome and we had a great experience trying something local. The filet of lamb with apricots and raisins carried on the Sephardic heritage of the region and was tenderly delicious. The partridge Alcantara Style being stuffed with pate de foie ( presumably one of the few pleasant legacies of the Napoleonic occupation) was a departure from the usual. The service was prompt and most friendly. Isabel, one of the family, came to chat with us and provided much information about the town and its peculiar customs. All in all an extreme pleasant venture.

Tripadvisor reviewers and Tentempie management should be ashamed. We read the reviews and their website. We went inside for tapas this evening at 7:30. We were told that there was nothing until 8:3.
That may be OK for Spaniards who napped all afternoon. For the rest of the wold, just be clear about when you're serving and when you're not. I won't be giving them a second chance.,

If you happen to be in Plasencia well you should go eat at casa tomas. We had a steak that melts in your mouth and the desserts are homemade. The manager and waitress were friendly indeed
