This is an outdoor activity so best visited in good weather. It is essentially a bamboo forest with lots of trails to walk along and large Gardens surrounding it. There is also a small building in the centre hosting art Exhibitions from local artists and a nice café in the basement. There were also weaving classes and other activities which were closed when I visited but are open during peak season. I spent around an hour and a half here and really enjoyed it, it was a highlight of my trip - beautiful scenery and very serene.
The trails/paths were pretty flat but many were steep inclines and there were some steps involved so if you have mobility issues you might not be able to access everywhere. A pushchair would be fine but I saw someone in a wheelchair struggling.

We went to the museum by bus from Gwangju, it took about half an hour (we had a the name in Korean on a paper and the driver told us when to get off, afterwards it's only a 5 minutes walk). It was a hot and humid weekday so there were no other people there. The museum is quite new, fee is only 1,000 KRW but unfortunately it was only in Korean so we were not able to read anything. It mainly had items on display that were made out of bamboo, not much on how bamboo is processed and no interactive parts.
The surroundings of the museum are nice, a bamboo park, a small lake and a greenhouse. It's surely nice to stroll around in spring/fall. There was a café where you should be able experience a traditional tea ceremony but we did not try it as the lady did not speak english. You can also buy bamboo products.

The Memorial and the museum are a good introduction to the Gwangju Uprising of 1980. The graves of the victims are moving, as is the Memorial Hall. The exhibits in the museum may occasionally seem overemotional, but the movie provides historical background. Well worth the longish trip out on the aptly-named 518 bus. A little further up the road is the original burial place of the victims, if you have time make your way up there, too.

A very picturesque stretch of pedestrianized road lined with metasequoia trees. There are some quirky statues and features along the way which add interest. The road is not particularly long, perhaps a 10-15 minute walk.
There was an entrance fee but it was minimal and the road is flat and suitable for pushchairs & wheelchairs.
There is a strawberry farm at one end which sold the most sweetest, juiciest strawberries I've had. Well worth a visit!

Who knew exile could be so peaceful? This remote location is the real-life place of exile for an important Joseon politician in the early 16th century. The scenery is superb, and one can easily imagine a brilliant (ambitious) politician being sent here for a life of poetry and solitude.
Soswaewon Garden is a classic example of Korean garden design. While many will be familiar with Japanese and Chinese Gardens, Korean garden design is still (sadly) unrecognized internationally. Korean garden design is less structured, more natural, and brilliantly colored during spring and fall. Indeed, some have mentioned Korean Gardens lack so many artificial features they are difficult to recognize as a designed landscape.
During my visit to Damyang I enjoyed this garden for its bright green foliage, historic location, and quaint stream. Walking to the site you are rewarded with a splendid view of the property.
