Namibia's largest coastal town is a huge draw for merrymakers and vacationers from all over the globe. This seaside resort showcases its German origins in its European-style colonial architecture, creating a jarring juxtaposition against the landscape of the Namib desert. Sandboard or motorbike the dunes, dine and imbibe in a picturesque restaurant on the waterfront, or just marvel at the unusual birds and plants that populate the region.

Desert Explorers boasts visits from many celebrities of the film, politics and sports field. Quad bikes are the best way to explore the desert and dunes. You may need to wait a bit during holiday season, but plenty of bikes are available with expert guides. Safety standards are good.

The many plants, male and female are a special feature. Amazing how these can survive in the desert climate and become so old. The road is good, a bit bare at the beginning, but the plants at the end of the road are super interesting.

This is the place to be if you need some time out and listen to the sound of the waves while watching the most beautiful sunset over the Atlantic...it has recently been renovated with a restaurant at the very end where you can enjoy your meal almost surrounded by the ocean...priceless!!

The Swakopmund Museum run by the Scientific Society Swakopmund. It is the largest privately run museum in Namibia and a favourite amongst locals and guests. On display are various types of indigenous plants, animals, minerals, an archaeological exhibition, the transport system of old and a variety of cultural historical objects. One of a kind and educational is the exhibition “People of Namibia.” This focuses on the traditional heritage of the different ethnic groups of Namibia.
Very interesting and educational. Inexpensive but you need a couple of hours to fully explore everything

This was our young daughter’s favorite thing to do in Swakopmund. The rays and small Aquariums were cool but the super impressive thing about the aquarium is the fish and shark tunnel. It is really well lit so it is easy to see the fish and get good photos. Some of the displays are a little dated but still informative.

Fascinating architecture! Good gallery. And the best views in town. The tower has to be ascended - 360 degree views of the town is an experience. It is hard to believe that this gem and oasis of Swakopmund is surrounded by desert - it is easy to forget this when visiting the town. The view from the tower brings everything into sharp perspective.

Historic church, the coloured windows in front are wonderful. You can experience the German architecture of this church. You can sign a visitors book at the front entrance.
