Montevideo, a port city and the capital of Uruguay, is a perfect destination for travelers looking for a relaxing stroll past colonial era buildings and along beautiful beaches. The Ciudadela Gateway, the only remaining section of the wall that once surrounded the entire city, now serves as the entrance to Ciudad Vieja, Montevideo's oldest neighborhood. Home to churches, museums, and theaters, at night the area comes alive with nightclubs playing Tango and Candombe music for crowds of dancers.

I’m surprised by a few of the negative comments. My wife and I had a great lunch at a reasonable price. Only negative is that they’re not open for dinner.
My swordfish was perfectly cooked - crisp on the outside, moist on the inside. Soups were also high quality. The waitresses were very good and spoke great English. We also spoke with the head chef who was extremely friendly and helpful.
We arrived a little after noon and there was only one other customer in the place. By the time we left it was filled.

Fusion cuisine with European, Latino and Asian influences, one of the most famous Chef in the country. Unique dishes in relaxed and elegant room. Good wine list tables, should be reserved.
A quite lunch... but quite a Lunch!
Excellent option for those who want something more than a typical "meat place" in Montevideo. The decor is cute and charming. It feels like a bohemian reato hidden in a quite neighborhood. The service is impecable, friendly but professional an courteous and homey at the same time. The food is excellent and somehow adventurous for Uruguayan standards . Diversity and creativity combined with passion and inspiration is the key to this fantastic option in Montevideo. One of the best food experiences I had in this city which I have been visiting for more than 30 years.
Go for lunch, you' llene treated like a Royalty

My boyfriend and I came to Francis for dinner! The food was absolutely amazingly delicious! I would recommend it! We had the chorizo, salmon sushi and potato skins as appetizer. For dinner we had the mushroom risotto! My only reason for giving it a 4 was that the service lacked a bit. It took forever to get drinks or place my order in. The server forgot to bring us water for a good 20 minutes. But the taste of the food was worth it!

Welcome to La Pulperia, a family business that already has more than 20 years offering a unique place to eat the traditional food of Uruguay. We are a small place but with very warm atmosphere, a spectacular food, and a friendly and attentive staff. We have a place to eat inside the premises and a few tables just outside for those who like to be outdoors. Our goal is that our customers leave satisfied in order to come back and tell their family and friends.
La Pulperia is known as one of the best parrillas in Montevideo - well I agree! Not your typical sit down restaurant which makes the experience even more amazing! It’s busy and the line is out the door. A must try in Montevideo.

Besides the fact that you can come to have a guided tour throughout the winery, vineyards, wine cellar and a classic car museum you can also have wine tastings and lunch. We think that the best food is usually the simple food made with high quality ingredients is the best. Our speciality are the grilled meats but do not hesitate to try our more elaborated dishes. We recommend if you are paying us a visit to do it chill, not in a hurry so you can enjoy your staying the best.
Nice place very well organized. With a quick visit to the wine property. Then we did the tasting of the wines produced by them and then the lunch. Closed menu with hot or cold starter option, main course and dessert.Coffee or tea to finish. We are peschaterian and found a vegetarian option too.

We went to lunch with friends and my parents at Es Mercat. The octopus and paella to start that were delicious. However, the lamb slowly cooked in Tannat for 5 hours was divine. It was the most incredible lamb experience of my life. My mouth still waters when I think of it and the lamb will be the standard I compare it to from now on. Thanks for showing us this incredible place Urban Heritage! Another Gem in this city..

After enjoying Ho Lee Fook in Hong Khong, I have to admit to choosing this restaurant merely for the name and the good reviews. But I'm glad I did and I'll be coming back because the setting is lovely, the staff delightful and the food wonderful.
We had the six course tasting menu and they were very flexible about replacing the suckling pig and blood sausage dishes with fish and vegetables for this vegetarian.
The maître d' managed to translate most of the dishes into flawless English and Google Translate helped with the rest.
Each dish is presented like a work of art and you should obviously start off with the Passion FOC as your cocktail ;-)

Insider knowledge says that these are the best cakes in town, and our small sampling backs that suggestion. Along with a great selection of teas, friendly service and the lovely garden cottage atmosphere, it is no wonder that it was crowded on a lovely Spring Saturday afternoon.

Dined here during our day in Montevideo - a stop on our South American cruise to Antarctica. Our guide recommended we dine here and the restaurant did not disappoint. The service was a bit slow, but the room is beautifully designed and decorated, views to the sea were wonderful and the food quite good. I look forward to returning and spending more time and exploring this vibrant South American city.
