This castle is perched on a rock overlooking the small town of Eichstatt. The museum is filled with fossils and preserved birds and other animals. The museum is about the Jura Mountains and offers a history of that area.......there were a great number of small children running about in the place making a great deal of noise so our visit was a brief one......the history exhibit was more interesting but I could have done without the children.

The Guardian Angels Church is gorgeous; do not be put off by the rather plain facade of the building. Many wonderful appointments in the church, and a beautiful place to pray. The church is attached to the seminary, a place of great learning and teaching over the centuries. Very much worth the short walk from the Dom!

Located a bit outside on Eichstätt on a small hill overseeing the little town with the fortress is this dig site. It demands a small fee (and an additional fee if you are to rent hammer and chisel) but is easily accessible and has a lot of small fossilized starfish, lesser ammonites and rarely some over small remains from the 100 - 190 mio years period. For the larger specimen, it is recommended to go the other dig site "Mühlheim". However here, if you spend one or two hours, it is safe to say that you can find some of the little starfish. However listen to the local people at the cashier. We saw some people messing around with the wrong pieces and not finding anything.
A nuisance are, as unfortunately must be said is quite common know, very badly behaved children. We had one small boy running riots with his hammer and breaking my daughters nice finds. Shame on the parents who even couldn't understand why we complaint about their lack of education! So protect your findings well and stay close by them.

Our family of 7 went to the Juramuseum and were so pleased with the under 20 Euros entrance fee for 2 museums in one. Not to forget the Amazing tunnel you drive-up to park in the amazing castle walls; parking is also available before the tunnel into the castle walls. The view and nature walks were also breathtaking. We also brought our own food for a picnic, but food is also available at the restaurant with garden by the entrance of the museum. Many school field trips were to be seen during May, at the Jura museum, and I can see why! So much to learn and history of fossils, bones, animals, etc...were everywhere. I did not see an elevator but I would recommend this whole museum, inside and out, to families who enjoy nature and history. Enjoy!
