Always worth visiting this colony. Free parking and a minimal charge to walk along the boardwalk. Whats not to enjoy? There will most likely be more than enough Penguins for any avid viewer and in fact they are so numerous that they are spreading out of the site and onto the slipway.

We had a lovely walk up to the waterfall. The path is of a gradual gradient and paved most of the way. An easy walk.
A very peaceful enviroment with well kept Gardens, set against a mountain backdrop.
Great to see many of the plants and fynbos labelled in the lower Gardens, together with a description of their medicinal benefits.

John the Potter is a potter living and working in Betty's Bay and his gallery and studio which is on the main road of Betty's Bay is open to the public daily; his gallery has a large selection of his well known reduction fired work and also his raku work. It is a great space to see John's work and to meet him and see him at work in his studio, a must see for all Betty's Bay visitors
We stayed the weekend in Bettys Bay and popped into the gallery. My daughter bought some bowls on her previous visit and the Orange House where we stayed had beautiful wares from John Potter. We bought some stunning plates. It's a pity he was sold out of mugs as we loved the ones at the holiday home. So on our next trip we are sure to buy mugs.

Located a few minutes off the main road and close to Stony Point this is a delightful, unspoilt beach that is ideal for a walk. Just ourselves and a few very keen surfers. No lifeguards, no parasols! Very natural.

Thoroughly impressed with the quality of the chocolates, especially the little truffles...so good!...
And they accept SnapScan as method of payment!
Unfortunately on the day we went, the factory was experiencing some difficulties and we were advised to go to the Saturday market at Miems in Pringle bay, where the chocolate was for sale on that day, and to come back another day for a proper introduction to Gaboli chocolates. We got to sample so of the chocolates (slabs) and bought the chilli truffels and the 70% chocolate slab.
We will be back!

The raised boardwalk takes you past quite a few of the various structures built when the old whaling station was constructed - way back in the early 1900's. Most of the structures have been reclaimed by nature, all except the old lookout or "lighthouse". We found it interesting to read about the history of the whaling station as well as the boards containing info about the penguins.
It is a great relief to know that whaling ceased along our shores quite some time ago and that the whole whale population is steadily increasing!
