Situated in the heart of Bathurst, the Australian Fossil and Mineral Museum is the home of the internationally renowned Somerville Collection. The Somerville Collection is the lifetime work of Warren Somerville and highlights of this remarkable collection include a T.rex skeleton, dinosaur eggs, fossils from most stages of life on Earth as well as spectacular examples of minerals from around the world. It is housed in the 1876 Public School building which underwent major refurbishment before being fitted out with stunningly beautiful Exhibitions.
I read about the museum on Trip Adviser and also on their website and thought it was worth a visit. I was not disappointed! Whilst it is not a large museum, I spent nearly two hours looking at the superb range of minerals from around Australia and overseas. The explanatory panels were short and concise and gave you a very good overview of geology and history. There were some really stunning mineral specimens with fascinating shapes and beautiful colours. The second section focuses on fossils and there are some interesting examples. The highlight, however, is the tyrannosaurus skeleton that dominates the room. The museum is housed in an old public school building with soaring vaulted ceilings lined with timber panelling. It is located in the middle of the CBD. Whilst very rewarding from an adult perspective, I think this would be a great attraction for children - it's not too large and the specimens are beautiful - a very good way to get kids interested in science.

If you're into motor racing big time, then this is the venue for you!
Hosting not only motor vehicle/bike events, there's also the new Mount Panorama Punish for those daring enough to challenge the mountain on foot. The atmosphere you'll experience will be one you'll never forget.
As well as car events, there's also a huge community garage sale held every December where stallholders can sell their pre-loved goods. Entry to this event is free.
Throughout non-racing event times, it is free to the public to do a leisurely walk or jog around the circuit. Whilst up at the summit, catch your breath & spend a few minutes taking in the breathtaking view over Bathurst & surrounds.
For the safety of all road users, please remember that road rules must be obeyed at all times for vehicles (60km/hr speed limit applies at all times whilst on the circuit). It is also highly advisable for pedestrians to wear hi-vis clothing whilst walking/jogging your lap/s.

I loved my visit to Abercrombie House. This magnificent 'house' with it's seemingly endless rooms, halls and passageways is a real beauty. I was fascinated by all the cabinets filled with precious antiques and treasures from around the world as well as the classic period furniture, magnificent outlooks from windows and the overall vastness of the property. You can join the owners for tea in the Gardens after the tour and I even bought a lovely artwork from a small stall they hold in the garden. They say, "The house has to earn it's keep" so they sell off a little of this and that to be able to maintain this magnificent home.

Went with my son on a self guided tour. We paid and were given a token. We had a lovely walk through the bush till we got to the cave where about 4 people were waiting and asking if anyone had a token so they could get in. They were trying to climb the gate and pushing it. It was intimidating so we just avoided them and went along past the area but saw another group of 5 asking the same thing to people still walking down. They eventually found someone who let them all in. They were a young couple so probably also felt intimidated by 9 people wanting their token. Perhaps a guide in the area is needed.
Once we waited for them to go and entered the caves it was beautiful. We had a nice time in there. The lighting was well done and we got lots of nice pictures. The explanations on the plaques were interesting and we learned a lot about the caves and the area.

We called in to the Bathurst Visitor Information Centre recently to get information on the various activities and accommodation available in Bathurst. We were professionally helped by the courteous staff on duty on the day we visited. There is a variety of brochures available for selection and also products for sale from the Bathurst region and a small display of nostalgic coach and cars. There are public toilets on site plus a café.
