Pippi Beach is just about perfect. The flagged swimming area at the northern end is protected from the strong northeasterly winds by a rock promontory, so the waves are gentle and just right for teenagers learning to bodysurf. The water is beautifully clear. Watch out for the local pod of dolphins - we saw them twice within a week. Lovely place.

The Yamba Museum is well worth a visit. The displays are good and it tells visitors much about the surrounding area, including the Clarence River, which is said to be the longest river on Australia's East Coast. The Clarence enters the Pacific Ocean at Yamba. It has a display of vintage surf boards and cane knives. The museum has a play area for ankle biters.

Fresh icecream, that actually tastes like it says it does ! . I had the chocolate and it was beautiful creamy chocolaty icecream. my husband had the Turkish delight and it was just like real Turkish delight from Tukey itself. A credit to the person who makes it. Bummed I didn't get to go back for another one before leaving.

The seminal breakwater (originally from the town's birth in the 1860s) of Yamba runs between Turners Beach and beautiful Whiting Beach .. well, a breakwater is just that .. functional .. but this one has been turned into a delicious nature walk by the local authorities. What used to be a scramble has been turned into a splendid stroll between the main rocks of the construction, which even an elderly walking-sticked bloke like me can manage. I just walked almost a kilometre along its length (the last hectometres are still incomplete) and joyed in watching the dragons, the shags, the pelicans and a particularly proud diving osprey, in the winter sun ... it was simple lovely ... back in town a sweet little Thai dinner .. and ... up to The Cove .. and feeling pretty good! Try it!

......I had my walk late afternoon and found parking the car very easy - there weren't too many people around . It is beautiful ....and bracing . The Sea is a little wild and that is always stirring . I would like to thank the traditional owners for keeping it looking SO beautiful for thousands of years . Early in the morning and late afternoon would be the best time . Allow 2-3 hours for an ambling pace .... there are some stairs BUT I wouldn't call it arduous x
