This scardy cat went swimming with dolphins! Granted, I had my husband to push me off the boat, or else I would probably have stayed inside, but once you are in the water, swimming with dolphins and listening to them and looking in their eyes, WOW!!! They turned sideways to look at us, so cool! We were a group of 11 people and two people go in the water at a time. You stay in the water for up to 15 minutes, or until the animals out swam you, which happens fast... We went in June, which is when the water is murkier, since it's the super bloom time when there is a lot of algae and krill in the water, which feed the giant whales crossing through. It is the best time to see whales! And we did go on a Whale Watching tour with CW Azores the day after our Dolphin Snorkeling Tour. We saw a blue whale, two Fin whales, 3 Sperm whales and bottlenose dolphins. We were very lucky!! We would love to do the dolphin tour again, later in the year, when visibility is better, so yes, we are planning our return trip and will go with CW Azores again. We had a great time and felt comfortable and safe through out, which was important. The tour guides were accessible, answering all the questions and wanted us to have the best time possible and as safe as possible. The price of the activities include all the gear, ponchos, wet suits, snorkel equipment. You can email them for reservation, call or walk in. We were to schedule the Whale watching Tour the day before. Then you just have to be there at the meet up time and be ready to be amazed by the most beautiful sea creatures!

The Mountain's House (CM) is an obligatory stop at Pico Mountain. Its main goal is to support those who want to make the climb to the mountain and to make the registration and control in accordance with the regulation. The CM is complemented by a bar with panoramic views, where you can taste some products of local gastronomy while recovering from the effort expended on the way up or simply listen to the stillness of nature and enjoy the magnificent scenery that embraces the entire west coast of Pico and the Faial Island. It provides information on the geology, biology, history, climate and legal framework of the Nature Reserve of Pico Mountain, both in information panels, or in movie format, which can be viewed in the auditorium.
Park here and enjoy scenic views. Visit the Mountain House and view the informative short film about Pico and plants which can be found there. Trekkers to the top will need to register and carry and GPS device. For safety, their progress will be monitored by staff at the Mountain House. Cafe and loos onsite.

PICOWINES, located in the village of Madalena, started production in 1961 with 51 members. Initially, it was built with the intention of vinifying a white liqueur wine, however, it was also necessary to proceed with the vinification of American grape varieties, from which the well-known "wine of smell" was obtained, introduced in the region after the devastation of powdery mildew and phylloxera. Currently, the Cooperative has about 246 associates in active and an average production of half a million liters subdivided in the most varied wines.
By constantly trying to improve the lot of the vine on Pico Island, this group exceeds where others fail. Experiments with small lots, blending of grapes, juggling of storage casks, all are examined to create world class wines. Wine history is being resurrected on a...MoreThank you very much for your appreciation. We will continue to work towards maintaining our class wines. In the expectation of receiving them soon, Best Wishes - Mariana Silveira
