Ardersier (Scottish Gaelic: Àird nan Saor) is a small former fishing village in the Scottish Highlands on the Moray Firth near Fort George, between Inverness and Nairn. Its name may be an anglicisation of the Gaelic "Àird nan Saor", or "Headland of the joiners", one local legend being that carpenters working on the construction of ecclesiastical buildings on the other side of the Moray Firth were quartered here.

I am so happy I visited Fort George and the Highlander’s Museum in particular. An outstanding exhibit. The age and condition of the paintings and artifacts blew my mind. Fort George is the mightiest artillery fortification in Britain. Following the 1746 defeat at Culloden of Bonnie Prince Charlie, George II created the ultimate defence against further Jacobite unrest. The result, Fort George, is the mightiest artillery fortification in Britain, if not Europe. Its garrison buildings, artillery defences bristling with cannon, and superb collection of arms - including bayoneted muskets, pikes, swords and ammunition pouches - provide a fascinating insight into 18th century military life.
Visited after our tour of Culloden and great to be inside a working barracks though still engulfed with a fantastic history

This is one of those places that posts a small sign next to the busy highway and depends upon people's curiosity to drive the 5 miles down a narrow road to find them...but what another world one encounters once they take this turn off! There's a cozy "cheese room" FILLED with delightful offerings - and the staff is only too willing to let you linger and taste whatever you want! We walked out with 2 different types, along with large, round crackers and a couple jars of chutney. We went out to the picnic tables and reveled in our FEAST. Took the leftovers back to our hotel and enjoyed them later on the train back to Edinburgh...WELL worth the effort to find them!

A spectacular showcase of Highland music, dancing and military history rounded off with a stunning display of fireworks in an unforgettable setting
We've been to The Highland Military Tattoo in 2015 & 2016. As I had been to The Edinburgh Tattoo I thought this one would be mediocre. It isn't at all. We had our grandchildren with us, they loved it! Great atmosphere. But make sure you wear warm clothes, it's cold at the barracks, we had wind jackets and warm scarves. This venue looks as if it's improving every year. Well done.
