Ardersier (Scottish Gaelic: Àird nan Saor) is a small former fishing village in the Scottish Highlands on the Moray Firth near Fort George, between Inverness and Nairn. Its name may be an anglicisation of the Gaelic "Àird nan Saor", or "Headland of the joiners", one local legend being that carpenters working on the construction of ecclesiastical buildings on the other side of the Moray Firth were quartered here.

Traditional country pub and restaurant serving modern Scottish food with flair. Situated in the beautiful conservation village of Cawdor, close to the famous Cawdor Castle, Cawdor Tavern offers a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere to enjoy a simple bowl of home made soup or full three course meal all made from fresh local ingredients.
The woodburning stove makes for a welcome sight on a cold January day. We had the Cullen Skink which was very disappointing.. a thin milky soup made up mostly from potatoes and not much smoked haddock.. at £6.50 per portion, not very good value

We were recommended Sutor Creek by our accommodation hosts. The restaurant has a lovely atmosphere and the pizzas we ordered were really good. We couldn't finish them but were able to take them away for lunch the next day! The staff, especially the young man serving, were all very friendly. We'd highly recommend eating here.

The Bandstand Restaurant is a charming restaurant overlooking Nairn beach. The glass fronted restaurant has stunning sea views. Dishes are freshly prepared from locally sourced produce. Lunch and dinner are served daily. Sunday Carvery lunch is very popular and booking is advised. Voted CAMRA Highland Pub of the Year 2014 and Highland Food & Drink Awards finalist 2014. The imaginative menu includes a wide choice of vegetarian and gluten free dishes. The Bandstand is famed for its excellent range of real ales (9 hand pumps) and for its whisky list which includes over 140 single malt whiskies.
We took family (5 adults and 2 babies) for a sunday carvery, the staff were very helpful and the food was well priced and well worth it, as if thats not enough the view from the window seats we had were gorgeous...... Only downside was...MoreI'm delighted that you enjoyed our Sunday Carvery. We recently improved our offering for this menu, so I'm pleased to hear that it was seen as good value. Thank you for your comments.

From the outside the building looks old and forgotten. Once inside you are greeted with an awful interior design. The restaurant tries to looks like the house of a scottish grandmother and succeeds. There are two areas, but we only saw one. The walls are covered with old wallpapers that are badly placed and curled up. The windows were damaged, there were leftover staples in the roof and the window covers were a misfit from the rest of the style. And then there is the music. There is a constant organ noise that sounds like it is supposed to be from a catholic church, but is played by a 5 year old. So the ambiance and interrior were just terrible.
Then there is the food. We ordered 2 cokes and 2 burgers. The coke tasted like they were either mixed with water or way too old. The burgers were supposed to be medium, instead we recieved them well done. The strange bagel bread bun was completely burned on the edges because of the grill. This made the burger taste like charcoal. The fries that came with it were good though.
There isn't much to be said about the service from the waitress. The young lady helped us fine, although she wasn't very concerned when we told her the buns were burned.
All in all the food was pretty bad, the interior garbage and the service fine. The reason it gets 1 star and not 2 is because it was also too expensive. It cost too much. Advice: don't go there.

I’ve enjoyed many visits to the Basil and they’ve always been a delight. I do try to order something other than the Cullen Skink but that’s difficult as it’s truly the best I’ve ever had. Luckily I’ve tasted everyone else’s orders so can attest to the really high quality of their menu: breakfast rolls are delicious as is the baking!
We’ve sat outside and in and always had the warmest welcome for us and our (well-behaved) dog.
I will visit again and again!

Visited one evening , don't be put off by previous reviews.
Bright and airy dining room, obviously has had some work done on the ceiling but sure it will be fixed soon.
A warm welcome from staff, very friendly and helpful.
Good menu, in fact it's huge !
Portions were large, meat locally sourced and very very tasty.
Reasonably priced. Well worth a visit .

Came here in March 17, returned November 17. If at all possible, it was even better.
Alistair, as a host , is fantastic. So knowledgeable about the area, the local produce , the beers and wines. Where possible, always has a good variety of Scottish ales, and spirits to try.
This is a small bistro, but has a big heart , and you should not miss out if you are in the area.
First class !!
