The picturesque lakeside town of Zell am See offers about 80 miles of local slopes, with beginner, intermediate and advanced runs all well represented. One hundred and twenty-five miles of cross-country trails offer gorgeous panoramic views. The neighboring town of Kaprun is famed for its glacier skiing.

Carefully constructed to reflect the natural beauty of the mountain and glacier. The hike through the mountain leads to a viewing platform with good visibility you can see for miles.

The Schmitten in Zell am See provides numerous offers on the mountain as well as on lake Zell. In summertime and in wintertime the focus is on the topics sport, family, Panorama view, enjoyment & art.
My first criteria when selecting a skiing destination is will it suit my wife! She is a competent skier, but not a very confident one. In particular she doesn’t like narrow trails and drag lifts. Schmittenhohe passed the test very well! Yes, there are some narrow runs but there was enough wide open pistes to keep my wife happy. The fantastic snow conditions helped too. There are a good variety of runs, something for all abilities, although complete beginners might find some of the lower slopes challenging. I witnessed quite a few people have difficulty with the last drop into the bottom of the city express lift. Nevertheless, I found it a great mountain to ski and the views of Zell Am See are fabulous on a good day.

This review might be too subjective as we didn't spend a lot of tune in the town itself. But what we have seen lacked soul and atmosphere. We had a great week skiing in the slopes but the town itself just didn't do it for us.

We visited the Lido in Zell am See a few times while we were here. The changing areas were spotless as were the toilets. The pool, the slides and the lounging area were equally clean and very well maintained. Cannot fault the facilities at all.

For more than 120 years, the Pinzgauer Lokalbahn, a narrow-gauge railway, has provided a connection between the communities of the Upper Salzach Valley on the edge of the biggest nature sanctuary in the Eastern Alps. And the Pinzgauer Lokalbahn isn‘t just a special attraction for fans of narrow-gauge Railways either. Many of the 40 halts are ideal starting points from which to discover the natural and cultural treasures of Hohe Tauern National Park, the „Pinzgau Grass Mountains“ and the Kitzbühel Alps. The biggest Waterfalls in Europe are also within convenient reach thanks to the Pinzgauer Lokalbahn. Modern trains run hourly along the 53 km line between Zell am See and Krimml. Aboard the vintage steam- and diesel-powered trains, you will also be able to enjoy a romantic, unforgettable journey through the wonderful Pinzgau countryside.
Travelling the full length of the line hauled by the nostalgic steam locos takes over 2.5 hours (including a half hour break at Mittersil) but adults will barely notice the time as they contemplate the stunning alpine scenery on all sides. The valley is extremely scenic and best viewed from a carriage verandah in the sunshine; just beware the rather large smuts if you are close to the loco & are not a 'true' enthusiast! Thursdays in high season can be busy, so we reserved seats by email in advance (pay on the day): these were clearly marked on the relevant carriage windows, and because we had Zell am See sommer cards we received a 30% discount each way. The ticket also included the easy 5-minute bus ride to the Krimml Falls, to which entry was free with the summer card;the return steam trip departs almost 3 hours after arrival, and that's about the right amount of time to see the falls and grab something to eat.(There's little at the station itself other than a vending machine.) If the weather's good, this is a fascinating day out ..and if it's not, you can always take the frequent faster diesel-hauled service...

Enjoyed looking around this very old church in the centre of Zell Am See. Not a great deal to see but their was a fair sized congregation at the service on Sunday.

What a charming little museum with so much interesting information on the way country people used to live. The perfect place to go when weather is unstable. Very friendly museum staff.
