Zagreb got its start as two medieval fortress towns atop hills overlooking the Sava River, and was reborn in the Baroque period as center of business, perfectly located on routes connecting Central Europe to the Adriatic Sea. These days, Zagreb is the heart of contemporary Croatia’s culture, art, sports, and academics, but its history is not forgotten. The unique blend of medieval towers, 19th century palaces, open-air markets, and ancient cathedrals, make Zagreb the perfect city to explore.

This 18th-century, 18 hectare park also houses the city zoo.
Few months I lived in this neighborhood close to the Maksimir Park. I was there for run, walk or barbecue with friends. During all season of year is this park so beautiful. You can find benches, paths, lakes and beautiful buildings. My favourite season there is autumn when is whole park full of colors and the atmosphere is wonderful. I spent there really lot of time and I wish that I spend more. After whole day of sightseeing in town is this the best choice for quiet time and for re-charging your batteries for next trips. Everybody whole loves park have to visit this place.

You can catch a tram to the base of the mountain and start climbing the trek from Zagreb's northern suburb (tram ends at Dolje and there is a car park leading to a pedestrian path under a tunnel). Takes about 2 hours to walk to the top at a moderate pace - not for people with joint or heart issues. Restaurant at the top for some well earned hot food and beer. Buses run from Zagreb to the restaurant also if you want to cheat.

Every summer, my husband and I always spend our weekend afternoon here whenever we are in Zagreb. Our fave place to drink coffee with friends. Many cafés around the street and I just like the feeling of taking your time like the locals drinking coffee while looking at the people passing by.

Zrinjevac is a beautiful, little park, right in the heart of Zagreb. It's literally 2 minutes away from the main square, by foot. Although I find it to be very charming, I'm guessing that its size will probably dissapoint some of the more experienced travellers or turists who happen to come from larger cities. But even if so, try and surpass that feeling, and enjoy the ambiance.

This cemetery contains world-class artwork and atmosphere.
Zagreb has a lot to see and to offer, and one of those things is definitely Mirogoj. Even though it is only a cemetery, it has ''arkade'', which are really worthy of seeing. The graveyard itself is rather big and you can walk around for quite a long time, but the thing that makes it all worth your time is definitely the arcades (the rest is also nice to see, but not really that necessary in my opinion). And it is pretty close to the center (around 10-15 minutes by bus).
Also, i would recommend getting a tour, because there are a lot of stories to be heard there. :)

Located on the edge of upper town it offers panoramic views of lower town. This especially a good time to visit as the Zagreb Christmas Festival is in full swing. there is the usual vendors offering sausages and wine. However, for us the highlight was listening to the tunes played by street musicians, seeing people enjoying themselves and having a boogie

This centrally located theater seats only 850 people.
Its architecture is fine and nice, however do not expect cheap tickets to see plays. It´s inside a green area which is relaxing for a walk. One of the most iconic buildings in Zagreb, I´d say.

It is easy to see this very tall twin-spired church from across downtown. One of the towers currently has scaffolding on it for restoration. The entryway has carved statues above it. The altar area was decorated for the Christmas season with a number of Christmas trees and looked quite festive. The stained glass behind the altar was very beautiful, but the stained glass along the sides of the church was just some geometric patterns.

We visited on a day trip from Ljubljana on the train and saw quite a lot of the lower town while we were walking around. There are many shops, restaurants and cafes and the Christmas markets were on when we visited which were nice although mainly food and drink.
