Xiangyang is a prefecture-level city in northwestern Hubei province, People's Republic of China. It was known as Xiangfan until December 2, 2010. Xiangyang is divided by the Han River, which runs through its heart and divides the city north-south. The city itself is an incorporation of two once separate, ancient cities: Fancheng and Xiangcheng District. What remains of old Xianyang is located south of the Han River and contains one of the oldest still-intact city walls in China while Fancheng was located to the north of the Han River. Both cities served prominent historical roles in both the Ancient and Pre-Modern Periods of Chinese history. Today, the city is, after the capital Wuhan, the second largest in the province, located about halfway between Wuhan and Xi'an. It is considered one of the third tier cities in China and has been a target of government and private investment as the country seeks to urbanize and develop the interior provinces.

A very impressive place, very clean and well maintained. It is a few miles walk but you can also hire a bicycle very cheap. There is also a service with a tour guide on a golf car. you need at least 3 to 4 hours to walk the entire wall but you can do it in 1 hour with the bicycle enjoying the different views around the wall.
My recommendation is to make the visit in the afternoon, after sunset, all the wall lights are on and you will enjoy the best views.

This is a very popular spot for local families, and the occasional, teenage couple, to visit and enjoy nature. The location is very pleasing with views of nearby hills.
There are ponds and water features in several locations.
There are park maintenance personnel constantly sweeping and picking up litter so it continues to look clean regardless of how many visitors there are.

First we went to the bell tower. What amazingly steep stairs to climb up .Have never seen anything like them.At the top you see the huge bell.Very carefully descended the stairs and over to the drum tower with similar stairs,Sat down and watched an amazing performance of drummers on huge drums.Well worth timing it right to listen to them ,the whole building vibrates with the sound.

This site is quite a surprise as it's in a busy location facing the river. As you enter, the air is cooled, the noise abates, and a reflective environment unfolds. Mi Fu, calligrapher and artist, is the focus with his words etched in stone on various monuments. A garden, moat, Bridges, interesting landscape, small pagoda rooms, and a replica of his home can be seen. The architecture, statues, and Gardens are all artistic in their placement and style. A wonderful gift shop with interesting items is a must. Prices are excellent! Guides (only in Chinese) provide services. You gain a sense of this interesting individual and life at a time of riches and opulence in China.

This is a very well restored guard tower located at the corner of the old city wall. The tower is in excellent repair and is a favorite location for wedding photography. The moat is just on the outside of the wall, as opposed to the Han river by the main gate.
There are many trees nearby and it is a popular location with locals.

This is the Main Street in the old town just inside the city gate. The fronts of the shops must be in the original ancient style so it is very pleasing to stroll down.
There are many tourist shops here, some of better quality than others. I purchased some jade and an antique bronze bell from one of the better shops. There are also food vendors.
This is worth a stroll and some window shopping if you are in the city.
