Munnar is famous and attractive with dams, rivers and wild life, Ramakkal is attractive with winds and Mountains. However, Vagamon is unique with her lush green hillocks and mild temperature. Tea plantations and mountain view is common everywhere. It is worth a visit for at least one night and two days.

I had visited this beautiful and picturesque place on 9.3.2018 along with my friends. There is a nominal entry fees os Rs. 10/- but I totally failed to understand why the local authorities charge Rs. 50/- for carrying the camera to the place ???!!!. Nowadays most of of us carry mobile phone which comes with best of camera feature. However one can carry the mobile without any charges but carrying camera inside the premises is chargeable of Rs. 50/- which is senseless and need to be discontinued.
So made the most of it, by capturing pictures in the camera. Its worth a visit.

My family and I visited Kalvari Mount in February 2018. This is a hill-top garden and observation point that literally takes your breath away. It is nearly 10 km from Idukki and the road isn't the best, but the place itself, and its beauty, more than compensates for the difficulty in reaching the top.
Do sit under the cupola and admire the majestic views of the waters below and the small Islands within. This is a good place to take photos.

Around 7 KMS from Vagamon after driving through a winding hill road and enjoying the scenic beauty, one comes to Kurusimala.
There are three hillocks all close by, one called Murugan mala with a huge concrete peacock on top, another hill called St. Thomas mount with the Centenary memorial on top and the third is the Kurusimala, which is the highest.
There are convenient steps leading to all three but going up Kurusimala will take at least one and half hours. There is an old church on Kurusimala which is being renovated.
There is a shopping center at the base with restaurants and curio shops.
The views from all three points are breath taking.
Must visit.

Visited this place on a weekend and it was crowded. After an accident few months back, they have started jeep facility to the top and do not allow private vehicles to the top. Parking is not free, but there is space to park. The place is steep, hence dangerous as well. Heard from the people that couple of months ago, couple of college students lost their lives after falling from the view point.
The place is beautiful. Since I visited during the rainy season, the place was lush green with fog. Roads are in good condition, mostly. Definitely recommended for anyone travelling to Vagamon.

It's an excellent engineering feat and a great experience. Excellent views of the lake. It's a combination of two arch dams between three hills, I think. Our experience started with a bad taste. Site was supposed to open at 9 AM, but it was delayed since the police guards weren't there and they didn't get ready until around 9:30!! There's no clear sign or directions along the way to get to the Dam site. This is a typical example of poorly planned and maintained tourist locations in India. It could have been an excellent tourist location due to the importance of this site. Also, photography is not allowed anywhere!! Why? Due to security reasons? Have they checked google maps and countless sites with high definition images of the dam? Walt over the dam is exciting, but may be a bit too long for some people. There's paid transportation available about which there's no information displayed at the entrance!! Overall it's a nice experience. I heard that one of the best places to enjoy the beauty of the lake is to visit the high point at Kalvary Mount. I couldn't find time to make that trip. Hope you will. :)
