Singkawang or San Khew Jong in Hakka (Hakka POJ: Sán-khiéu-yòng), is a city located in the province of West Kalimantan, on the island of Borneo in Indonesia. It is located at about 145 km north of Pontianak, the provincial capital, and is surrounded by the Pasi, Poteng, and Sakok mountains. Singkawang is derived from Hakka Chinese, San Khew Jong which refers to "a town in hills nearby a sea and estuary."

It is located in the center of streets. To reach threre simply park your vehicles behind the temple and then walk. Outer walls filled with wisdom words from Tao, Confucious and other wisdom men. The temple surrounding is clean. Like many temples the inner temple is beautiful with two huge candles on the left side. It is beautiful and serene.

Rumah Marga Thjia or the Xie Family House is part of a larger heritage site, designated as such by the municipal government. The Thjia house, centrepiece of the site, was built by Tjhia Siu Si (Xie Shou Shi), an immigrant from Fujian. He was granted the land on the bank of Singkawang river by the Dutch government after having been successful in agriculture and shipping.
The two central buildings served as trading office (front) and reception room (back). Nowadays these stand empty and serve as klenteng respectively. The living quarters are arranged in U-shape around the central buildings, seperated by a garden and covered walkways. To each of his seven sons Thjia Siu Si bequeathed "two doors". His descendants still live there in harmony.
We were lucky to be shown around by mrs Emily Zoe Hertzman, a Canadian by birth. She is married to one of Siu Si's descendants (5th generation) and lives half a year in Singkawang, half a year in Canada. As an anthropologist she did her research and differs of opinion with the Tourist Department as to the age of the house. The latter dates it to 1901, "but I found map of 1887 which already shows the house".
The government has provided some walkways and Bridges along and over the river, but private owners have to maintain their own house. The Thjia compound was built of ironwood and still in good shape. The family set up a foundation to help finance its preservation, they are not that rich any more.

Tanjung Bajau is a beautiful beach with many attraction for kids. The sand of the beach is beautiful. Road access to the beach is good. Very beautiful to watch sunset. There is a hill close to the beach, so that you could watch sunset by the beach or at the hill. There is a nice hotel in the location. If you come to the site with children you'll need more than 3 hours.

This area has few Playgrounds and games to play just like Dufan in very mini version. But the manager of this area doesn't concern about maintanance of their tools and games, it really needs to be renovated. Anyway, this place is one of most visited place in Singkawang especially for Office workers who plans their family gathering.

Kelebihanny Bisa snorkeling, renang, mancing ikan, berkemah, dsb.

Kura-Kura Beach is a new promoted beach by the tourism agency of Singkawang. The beach is beautiful, with color sand. The local people like do fishing at this beach. But, it need to be improved. The sign to the location is small, so hard to see. The road access is not good, no tourist facility.
