This beach has a very difficult access, since you need to go up and down some big hills on a very tiny street (if there is a car coming the other way, it becomes quite harsh), but it is worth all the efforts, because you will arrive at this remote beach which very calm water.
Also, you can visit this fortress from the 18th century when you are, the entrance fee is 8 reais, and it is decently conserved, with some ceramics, pottery and a some awesome canons.

The beach is not quite as crowded as others in S. Francisco island. Many families and a general impression of peace and quiet. Not many vendors crossing the sand so you'd better bring your own water and snack. There are trash bins along the beach.

The main purpose for this old fortification is provide good life in vacancies for elite militarians, at less than one euro a day. Nothing special, except if you want to know how officers from army can live. a good view from the top of the hill.

Unfortunately, the water seems to have lots of oil from the ships crossing to the port. But if you go there during winter and want only to walk on the sand, it's OK. Plenty of small shops selling swimsuits and floral dresses.

If you are looking for a place to get relaxed, far from noise and loud lounge music, with clean sea, and you are with your family, this is the right place for you.
There are no walking place to buy food and other stuffs but you can get your car and drive 1-3 minutes to the nearest food store (I recommend you buying anything you need previously to stay all the time in the beach). An exception is a nice and fair-price restaurant called "Caiçara" and a few places to by beach sneaks (like corn, "churros", etc).
My wife and I normally rent a place in from of the beach, so in the morning I usually get in to the water before breakfast ("particular shower" before eating).
The place is perfect for vacations when all you want is getting relaxed after a year working!

Recomendo.
