Collection de l'Art Brut

Reviewed By Elana G - Far Rockaway, New York

I came on Rick Steves recommendation and was glad I did, its worth the visit, as you do see art in a different form. The artists are from societies fringe with unfortunate childhood stories, criminal backgrounds, mental health challenges. Their artwork benefited both them and society , I am glad the curator had the foresight to collect their works and the presentation was well done and added to our appreciation of their works. I especially enjoyed the works of nature on the upperfloors. I understand the works are rotated and you might see something else entirely on each visit. If you go early they only charge half price. I was disappointed in their choice for pictures on posters sold as I felt they chose the craziest, work rather than the prettiest work, Some of the artwork looks like it could have been drawn by a first grader and some was truly outstanding. In all well presented, thought provoking and well done. No wifi, You have to put bags into lockers, there are clean bathrooms, staff was helpful and friendly

Lavaux Vineyard Terraces

Reviewed By derekfr - Paris, France

The Lavaux tearraces are the south-facing vineyards along the North shore of Lac Leman (Lake Geneva). The whole area from Lutry, just east of Lausanne, to Vevey/Montreux is cross-crossed by a network of wide paths allowing walks of various lengths, both from point A to B, or circular ones.
Access can be by car or public transport as 2 railway lines serve the area - the lakeshore route from Lausanne to Montreux, where an hourly stopping train serves all the lakeside villages, and a higher level line from Lausanne to Chexbres.
I wallked from Cully to St. Saphorin. The only "difficult" part was the climb up the steps (lots!) from the lake shore to the Terrace at Eppesses and the steep descent back down into St. Saphorin, about 8 km further on. The views are spectacular the whole way. The weather was not great the day I went, but in some ways the constantly changing cloud formations over the high Alps were more interesting than a perfectly blue sky - honestly! This was my first visit to the Lavaux terraces but it certainly won't be my last as there are still many areas left to explore and I would happily do the same route all over again.

Century old paddleboat, with First class Seating having table service and the best views on Lake Geneva.
The second class accommodations are ok. with the best views being on the left side of the boat. There is also a small pub.
Travel is fairly smooth, and you can see the paddle in action.
Lovely way to travel around the Swiss portions of Lake Geneva, especially the views of Chateau de Chillon.

The view from Terres de Lavaux is worth the trip. While you are there get some wine or a coffee and enjoy the view. The food seemed over-priced and just average tasting.

Cinema CityClub

Reviewed By Fourwanderers - Zurich, Switzerland

If you like truly independent films or Concerts of original music in a smaller setting, this is the right place! This beautifully maintained small cinema, just a few steps out of Lausanne city (easy bus/train acces) shows an excellent, eclectic programme of independent films and documentaries from all over the world, in original language with subtitles (usually French subtitles). Very often, the director will be there to introduce the film on opening day. Once a month, they have a concert/event evening, featuring a film PLUS a concert or a talk related to the film. I REALLY recommend these evenings - they feature great musicians (e.g. Toumani Diabate !!!), the acoustics in the hall are brilliant, and the seats super-comfortable - and the 2 items together cost only 28 F! Other than having a great night out, you will also be supporting the continuance of a community of passionate film lovers. Need I say more? Go today!
