Peter and his project of treehouse close to Manzanillo are simple awesome. Peter is a very knowledgeable person, his eyes see all tiny animals, he is an experienced hiker and traveller and his project of treehouse took my breath away. One of the best things I have ever seen in my life. The views from the Observatory are breath-taking, you can experience real jungle, listening to all the noises made by monkeys, birds, etc ... And also the way how you get up to the treehouse is super interesting, bit adrenaline. I loved it. Highly recommended!

Tarantulas Way

Visit the tarantulas way with me together at night to explore the rain forest from Cahuita. Bird-eating spiders, frogs, bats and many insects with warranty. Listen the night sounds of nature on a leisurely stroll through a Zoo without fences. This is certainly an exciting and enjoyable experience for your vacation.

Cris is definitely dedicated to the fauna of this area. We saw six eyelash vipers, bullet ants and many tarantulas. a truly memorable night walk. I didn't give him 5 stars because I'm a little concerned that he does these walks most nights and allows guests to shine lights and flash cameras into the eyes of these night creatures. This seems dangerous to me as he must often find the same ones each night. Even a red-eyed tree frog was awakened by our group from his nightly slumber. Most night walks I've been on did not allow flash cameras and with modern cameras it shouldn't be necessary.

the plantation is beautiful with wide variety of fruit trees, flowers and bushes. i love the organic production. the chocolate was so pure and delicious. the actual process was very interesting. we were able to participate in the shelling and churning process. we had sample of hot chocolate and chocolate on banana slices that were just so heavenly!!!!! oh and the sour guava drink we were offered was also very delicious.
David was very knowledgable and eager to share his knowledge. he also answered questions we had about other plants. other than chocolate which was the main focus of the tour, he also let us sample grapefruit on the plantation and a fruit called ackee which is also known as the brain fruit !!! it was very interesting to experience a fruit i've never had before. we did another chocolate tour during our 1st visit to CR but this one is definitely our favorite. i support local businesses and i support their organic production to create best quality chocolate instead of mass production. it's very hard to do nowadays and they seem to really enjoy their craft as opposed to making large profit. it's admirable.
David, just so you know!!! the bamboo that we asian ppl eat is in the paragraph below. I couldn't find a can at any stores in PV to share with you. hopefully you'll be able to experience it for yourself one of these days!! it's quite tasty.
'Bamboo shoots or bamboo sprouts are the edible shoots (new bamboo culms that come out of the ground) of many bamboo species including Bambusa vulgaris and Phyllostachys edulis. They are used in numerous Asian dishes and broths. They are sold in various processed shapes, and are available in fresh, dried, and canned versions.
Raw bamboo shoots contain cyanogenic glycosides, natural toxins also contained in cassava.[1] The toxins must be destroyed by thorough cooking and for this reason fresh bamboo shoots are often boiled before being used in other ways. The toxins are also destroyed in the Canning process."

We went here the day after heading to the sloth sanctuary and found it so so much better!
The owner Patricia clearly has a passion for the animals and plants and have a really interesting tour. We also saw a whole range of rescues animals as she explained to us what they were doing to prepare them for release back into the wild.
The Gardens were also absolutely beautiful and receive a lot of visits themselves from wild animals.
There is only one tour a day which felt much better - they aren’t just hoarding tourists through but instead raising awareness and enough money to keep the place going.
Definitely pop by!!

Tortuguero National Park

This park contains 11 different ecological habitats and is a sanctuary for nesting sea turtles. Situated on the Northern Caribbean side of Costa Rica, in the province of Limon, it is approximately 90 miles northeast of the capital city of San José. Accessible only by air or water, Tortuguero is the most important nesting site in the entire western half of the Caribbean for the green turtle. It is known as “Tico Amazon” (Costa Rican Amazon) due to the fact that in Tortuguero there are no roads; the principle means of transportation being the dozens of fresh water canals throughout the park.

What a beautiful place. I love nature and Tortuguero has plenty of it. Caimans, sloths, iguanas, birds and the list goes on. I didn’t see any turtles as they come out only in the night and it isn’t nesting season. So if you are planning to visit Costa Rica, this is a must see place. If like me you decided to do a day tour, be prepared for a VERY LONG day. From the time I was picked up from my hotel to Tortuguero Village it took us 5 hours (between road and boat) and the same journey time on the way back. Although the boat should be considered part of the adventure, if I exclude the boat trip it takes approximately 3h30min to get to La Pavona. Our guide Luis was very knowledgeable and an expert in spotting wildlife at the river banks during the boat ride to Tortuguero. Getting to the village, we had a quick walk around the village before heading to a hotel inside the rain forest for lunch and after we have started to make our journey back. The downside of the tour is that given the location is so remote, it was quite rushed. When we got to the Sea Turtle conservatory, it was shut for lunch so we couldn’t talk to anyone about their work to protect the turtles or even “adopt one”. The walk through the village was also rushed, their are quite a few shops where you can buy souvenirs and items made by the locals, so it was a shame to not stop and support their economy which relies heavily on tourism. The lunch was nice, but I would have preferred that it was in the main village so that I could explored it a bit better. Personally, I would recommend do to and spend the night there.

One of the best part of this tour was the hour drive through the little villages. You were able to see the small farms and how the people live. The research Center itself explained how the rainforest is being protected and how local indigenous people are getting new opportunities for jobs. You can tell that the guides are well informed and care to preserve this area and not let happen to it what happened to the Amazon.
