Porto Azzurro is a comune (municipality) in the Province of Livorno in the Italian region Tuscany; it is on the island of Elba, located about 130 kilometres (81 miles) southwest of Florence and about 90 kilometres (56 mi) south of Livorno. It was formerly called Porto Longone, and in 1557 Iacopo VI Appiani, Prince of Piombino, granted Spain the right to build a fortress there. It was transferred to the Kingdom of Naples in 1735 under the terms of the 1725 Treaty of Vienna, and then to France in 1801, when Napoleon established the Kingdom of Etruria.

Stefano Sub is a PADI end SNSI center of diving which operates in the tourist island of Elba from 2000.Divers who have made their passion their lifestyle, environmental guides respectful of the beauty of the sea, diving instructors with years of experience in Italy and abroad: all this in a single solution with a single purpose, make you fall in love with the depths of the Isle of Elba
We made a 2 hours snorkeling trip with Stefano and his crew - they were very nice and professional but it was clear they were more oriented on diving - they dropped us at the shore and left us to ourselves until we got back to the boat, plus there was
not much fauna to see, really. Next time would check first where they go - preferably ship wreck or a cave.

If you manage to navigate the 6km dirt track from Capoliveri to the mine then this is a fantastic tour of a disused mine on Elba that remains a strategic asset for the Italian state government. It's worth remembering that there are only certain times during the day that tours leave the main visitor centre, which are listed on the website. We weren't aware of that so we brought some tickets for the next tour and were recommended a place to go an eat lunch while we waited.
When it's the time of your tour, you leave in convoy behind a guide bus from the visitor centre down to the mine (if you don't have a car you travel in the bus). It's about a 10 minute drive down to the mine where you're given audio-guides and hard hats. Our tour guide spoke English pretty well and there were only about 6 of us in the tour compared to around 20 in the Italian one. We were led down into the mine mixing our tour guide with audio-guide. Going down into the depths of the earth and seeing the mine was an amazing experience and would highly recommend this tour.

Resti in ferro dell'attività mineraria abbandonati e in rovina testimoniano l'antica attività.Grave che non vi siano cartelli che vietano di bagnarsi nel laghetto.
Per i più pigri vi è anche la possbilità di arrivarci in auto da Reale.

It is easily accessible and beautifully located. I wanted to spend some time on the beach in the afternoon, so we stopped the car on the way to Capolivieri and it was a good decision. This sandy beach is very nice and clean. The entrance to water is pleasant and you can swim to the next bay, which is almost empty, even in August. Very relaxing afternoon.

Yeah Minerals. HOWEVER take the train ride and get a ride through amazing nature and spectacular views! Which in it self is great, but best is, the stop on the top and you get handed tools to do some mining yourself AND keep the stones. Very nice and extremely informative. We had a great time. Afterwards get a fantastic Gelato almost next door of the Museum.

Small white pebbles instead of sand....what an amazing place. The water is crystal clear. First time in Elba, truly a gem. A must see..one beach is more beautiful than the next, if that's possible.

In the summer time, every day, the motorship Magic Princess offer different types of cruises to explore the coastline and the most beautiful bays of Elba island accessible only by sea, with several stops for swimming in the sea: durind the cruises will be provided explanations to describe coasts, the curiosity and the island's history.
Whole family of 4 went to this full 6 h cruise around island Elba.
where to start ... 35€ for adults and half price for kids. Trip started 30 mins late.
Come at least 45mins before the assigned departure time if you would like to be on the boat. Reservation over the phone is definitely an advantage. Boat can take around 100 ppl.
We have been driving through wavy see, 50%+ prople on board got seascick. No one was standing after 2h. It was disaster.
My advice is to take those famous (against the sea sick ) pills with you because we really had hard time not to trow up.
You never know how the weather will be.
From that point of view it was really really horrible.
Bring some water with you. Coffee costs 1€ per cup but you can take 2 or 4 cups. No less.
Sights and stops were nice and ok, 3 stops with swimining in the sea somewhere close to shore.
Lunch? Yes it was kind of inlcuded but dont expect much. We got water and tomato salat with bread. I think this was a bit to thin for price.
Was it worth: Yes. But sea sick was terrible.
